Stryker Senior Manager, Tax Accounting and Reporting (hybrid) in Portage, Michigan

In this role, you will be responsible for for accurately reporting the US GAAP financial statement impacts of the Stryker US income tax provision and various elements of the global income tax provision. This hybrid role can be based out of our Portage, MI; Flower Mound, TX or Mahwah, NJ locations.

What you will do

  • Leads the US income tax provision process to accurately report US income tax expense and support various aspects of the global income tax consolidation process in compliance with US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP). Responsibilities include: (1) coordination of information flow from multiple sources to accurately calculate and record US income tax provision. (2) preparation/approval of journal entries, (3) preparation/approval of financial schedules, workpapers, and management reports, (4) review, reconciliation and analysis of account balances for accuracy and reasonableness, (5) summarization and communication of financial results to senior members of Finance via written and oral communications.

  • Provide key decision support for company’s forecasted effective tax rate.

  • Collaborate with other tax team members to determine and analyze income tax accounting issues, including uncertain income tax positions as defined in ASC 740.

  • Lead, motivate and develop US-based direct reports and drive their tax accounting development. Responsibilities include: development of work plans, review and approval of work product, provide feedback and direction and conduct routine performance reviews

  • Uphold the company’s control framework related to reporting for income taxes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.

  • Work closely with external and internal auditors to satisfy corporate and SEC audit requirements and consult on effective internal controls.

  • Research and analyze tax accounting issues to accurately interpret accounting and tax rules and support development of tax accounting practices and policies.

  • Work collaboratively with other Tax Department, Finance and Division leaders to identify and implement opportunities to maximize efficiency and optimize finance processes.

  • Ensure compliance with all Company policies.

  • Lead projects or offer decision support to projects as assigned.

What you need

  • Bachelor degree in Business/Finance/Accounting required

  • 10+ years of experience in progressively responsible positions in a corporate tax department, public accounting firm or comparable experience.

  • Professional certification and/or advanced degree preferred.

  • Fortune 500 corporate tax department or international CPA firm experience preferred.

  • Experience in US federal taxation preferred.

  • Strong technical skills including knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (USGAAP) particularly Accounting Standards Codification 740, Income Taxes (ASC 740) preferred.

  • Experience with HFM, Corptax Compliance, and Corptax Provision a definite plus.
