Portage Public School Health Aide in Portage, Michigan

Health Aide - ESI (Special Education)

M - F   10 to 3:40 PM Woodland Elementary School * *$13.52/Hour+

Job Summary: Under direction of the case manager or administrator, the health aide provides health support services to students within the school setting. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide health care services to students in school setting.
  • Maintain required documentation and/or record for care given.
  • Assist with prescribed medications.
  • Clean and dress minor wounds.
  • Monitors students' condition by observing physical and mental condition.
  • Observe and report on students' condition.
  • Assist with personal care activities.
  • Ability to create a safe, secure environment for students.
  • Transfer students to and from transportation.
  • Physically restrain students as needed.
  • Fill out, distribute and/or collect checklists.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Regular and consistent attendance.
  • Must have knowledge of and comply with the policies and procedures contained in the Portage Public Schools Employee Handbook.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent. 
  • Previous health care experience preferred.
  • The ability to monitor vital signs and administer simple medications.
  • Current CPR/First Aid/AED Certification or the willingness to obtain in the first 3 months of work.
  • CPI certification or the willingness to obtain it in first 3 months of work.
  • Experience working with children, preferred experience working with children of special needs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and use sound judgment.
  • A high degree of patience, ability and willingness to learn new skills and take direction.
  • Proficient computer and documentation skills.
