The Director of EHS Excellence, Strategy and Assurance leads a team of Safety & Environment experts to develop and implement comprehensive standards and strategies to build technical competencies that deliver a safe, healthy, environmentally sound workplace across Stryker. This role is a key leadership position for global EHS technical disciplines, subject matter expertise and EHS culture. Specific areas of support include industrial hygiene, process safety management, occupational safety, ergonomics, radiation safety, Assurance, and Environmental Compliance.

  • Establish a robust Global Environment Health and Safety Management system with the development of policies and standards.

  • Leader of approximately six global safety, health and environmental subject matter experts (SMEs) including a Radiation Safety leader, Environmental Compliance, and Occupational Safety leader.

  • Develops global technical work plans (strategy, metrics and tactics) to assure EHS regulatory compliance.

  • Stewards Stryker’s process for setting global EHS strategy, policy, standards and goals in the areas of occupational safety, industrial hygiene, process safety management, radiation safety, ergonomics, enviromental compliance.

  • Global strategic leader who engages subject matter experts in development and deployment of best in class EHS programs that drive continuous improvement, reduce risk, eliminate severe injuries, drives assurance program and prevents undesired environmental/safety events.

  • Develops a Global EHS audit program and governance processes. Manage a thorough EH&S Risk Assessment Program for all sites.

  • Assure EHS compliance with applicable regulations and Stryker EHS standards, to eliminate or control EHS risks in the workplace, prevent employee injuries and illnesses and environmental contamination while facilitating the conservation of limited natural resources.

  • Establish a robust data management system for maintaining and communicating the status of the EH&S Program.

  • Provide input to local EH&S budgets to ensure compliance and alignment with strategic priorities.

  • Create and deliver EH&S Training programs to ensure proficient EH&S team members.

  • Develop a Global EH&S Recognition Program to promote the EH&S Program and drive compliance.

  • Cultivates deep SME expertise (Center of Excellence)and fosters continuous improvement in the EHS organization capabilities, processes and the digital ecosystem through development and application of SMEs.

  • Develop, gather and trend Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to determine progress against industry standards as well as previous year performance.

  • Maintain proficiency in international, federal and state EH&S regulations to ensure program compliance.

  • Develop EH&S Integration process for M&A support. Train EH&S members and applicable leaders on program.

  • Supports Stryker Habits & Principles by developing a new safety culture program incorporating human and organizational behavior techniques.

  • Collaborates with the EHS regional teams, troubleshooting, adapting and deploying safety strategies/tactics to the breadth of businesses across Stryker.

  • Responsible for building a culture that hires, grows & develops talent, inspires diversity & inclusive behaviors and enables high performing teams. Leads and develops talent consistent with the expectations of the Stryker core values.

  • Engages externally to benchmark and assure Stryker stays at the forefront of EHS innovation as well as to advance Stryker thought leadership.
