SEMCO - Corrosion Technician II

SEMCO Energy is seeking a Corrosion Technician II for our Niles, MI team! Reporting to the Supervisor, Cathodic Protection, the Corrosion Technician inspects, corrects, and maintains cathodic protection on areas of the company’s underground pipelines within the established service territory.

You Will:

  • Perform testing on existing pipelines and surrounding soils to determine the rate of corrosion and type of protection needed.

  • Ensure compliance with cathodic protection systems and standards.

  • Assist in the research, design, coordination, analysis, monitoring, and evaluation of assigned CP projects.

  • Perform cathodic repairs and maintenance. Completes and maintains appropriate documentation and reports on findings and actions.

  • Participate in the development of cathodic protection standards and work procedures.

  • Adhere to SEMCO internal control procedures and financial processes.

  • Maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate books, journals, and other literature and attending seminars, conferences, and the like. Participates in internal and external company training as required.

  • Provide training and assistance to junior Technicians.

You Bring:

  • Minimum high school diploma or GED required. College courses or vocational training in Cathodic Protection or Electrical Engineering preferred.

  • NACE Certification is preferred.

  • 2+ years of cathodic protection, electrical, and/or gas distribution experience preferred.

  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills.

  • Professional written and oral communication skills.

  • Working knowledge of various personal computer software applications used by SEMCO. Ability to learn new systems or software packages as necessary.

  • Maintain and promote a positive work atmosphere through effective interactions and communications with co-workers, customers, and management.

  • Must maintain and promote a safe environment for co-workers, customers, and the public through adherence to established safety standards and timely reporting of potential hazards.

  • Adhere to Company policies and procedures related to the code of business ethics, compliance, responsible use of Company assets, and all applicable state and federal laws.

Physical Requirements & Working Environment:

Work is performed primarily in a field setting and requires the use of personal protective equipment. Duties involve driving, sitting, bending, stooping, walking, climbing, crawling, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, twisting, digging, standing for extended periods, operating heavy equipment, fine finger movement, and lifting objects to 50 lbs. Frequent travel to various worksites is also required, depending on the assignment. Job sites may include interior and exterior work locations that involve hazardous environments requiring personal protective equipment and some physical discomfort due to temperature, dust, and noise. Occasional work is required in confined spaces, on ladders, and in adverse weather conditions.

The estimated hourly wage for this role is between $34.67 to $47.42, depending on qualifications and experience.
