Academic Therapeutic Learning Alternative Setting (ATLAS) Teacher
- Targets the needs of elementary school students from across the district who have experienced significant childhood trauma and have limited success in the regular classroom.
- Works collaboratively with school personnel and Grand Mental Health personnel to provide students with a therapeutic rather than a punitive approach.
- Support the goals of the ATLAS classroom - increase student attendance, academic achievement, and social-emotional skills.
- Manage and teach children exposed to trauma.
- Trauma-informed teaching training will be provided.
- Grand Lake Mental Health provides the ATLAS classroom with a Therapist, a Behavior Health Coach, and a Family Care Coordinator. Ponca City Public Schools provides a Teacher and a Teacher Assistant.
ELEMENTARY TEACHER
Reports to: Building Principal
Supervises: Assigned Paraprofessionals, Volunteers, and Students
Qualifications: Valid Oklahoma Teaching Certificate in Assigned Subject(s)
Job Goal: Provide exceptional instruction to assigned students while working within the established policies and procedures of the district.
Employment Terms:10 month Contract
Generally - 7 Hour 20 Minute Day, Exclusive of a (30) Minute Duty Free Lunch
FLSA Classification: Exempt
Evaluation: Annually Pursuant to Oklahoma Law

Regular Requirements: Stand for extended periods; walk; twist at the
neck and trunk; bend and reach with hands and arms overhead,

students; lift/move up to 15 pounds
Occasional Requirements: Lift/move up to 25 pounds,
ability to administer CPR
Visual Requirements:Close, color, peripheral, depth perception, ability to adjust focus
Hearing/Speaking Requirements:Adequate to exchange information
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Establishes and implements classroom procedures designed to maximize student learning in an environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
Prepares detailed weekly written lesson plans consistent with Oklahoma Academic Standards specifically designed to teach skills on course curriculum maps and timely submits plans to assigned principal.
Complies with and fully implements all Individualized Education Plans and behavioral or academic interventions.
Maintains a neat and orderly classroom, including the physical arrangement of the room, student records and materials.
Handles routine classroom discipline fairly.
Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
Attends and participates in all required meetings and conferences, including professional development
