LAKE COUNTY Legal Secretary in POLSON, Montana

The Lake County Attorneys office is accepting applications for a Legal Secretary. PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION: In accordance with the standards set forth by the Criminal Justice Information Network (CJIN) in Montana and the policies and procedures established by the Lake County Attorney, this position primarily focuses on receiving citations, discovery and evidence from law enforcement agencies. Communicating with these agencies to obtain any additional discovery needed and organizing it neatly in our filing software. The position distributes this information to defense attorneys in a secure and timely manner, maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of the data. Additionally, this role involves preparing discovery for trial, which may include using document or video editing software to trim and redact media. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Effective communication skills to interact with law enforcement, supervisors, employees, and the general public. Specific vision abilities include the ability to adjust focus for extended periods of computer work and reading documents. Manual dexterity to operate a computer, filing software, and other office equipment efficiently. Occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects weighing up to 20 pounds. Frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms; occasionally required to stoop, kneel, and climb. May need to travel within the county in all weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment varies from low to moderately loud. MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY AND PERFORMANCE: Create and organize physical and electronic legal files for criminal, Youth in Need, and civil cases; Order or procure various reports from different agencies; Collect and process daily jail information and citations from law enforcement; Prepare motions, orders, notices, plea agreements, and various other legal documents; Calendar hearings, motion responses, and discovery deadlines; Request and process all discovery, ensuring it is organized and securely distributed; File legal documents with Justice Court and District Court and distribute; Communicate with victims and law enforcement regarding case status both orally and in writing; Assist attorneys in trial preparation as needed; Perform other duties as assigned. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: PARALEGAL experience is preferred but not required. The ideal candidate would have some knowledge and understanding of: Law office practice (preferably criminal law); Familiarity with Justice Court and District Court procedures; Familiarity with legal terminology and statutes; Various office equipment including telephone, fax machine, copier, printer, computer, and media equipment; Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel and Outlook); Safety rules, procedures and practices; Preferred Education/Experience: Minimum of two years of law office experience. HOURS/DAYS: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m./M-F. WAGE: $20.00 ? $23.00 hourly depending on experience. BENEFITS: Lake County offers excellent benefits!
