Job Title: Payroll Supervisor

Job Description

Responsible for complex payroll processing in Canada, maintaining compliance with all Provincial laws and regulations while ensuring accuracy of all wage calculations, withholdings, deductions, and changes. The role involves supervising designated payroll team members, overseeing daily activities, and motivating the payroll team by facilitating communication and creating a supportive work environment. You will provide oversight and advice on day-to-day US Payroll processing, ensuring payroll processes align with company philosophy and recommend internal control or efficiency enhancements. Additionally, you will assist in mentoring and coaching the team to develop their overall payroll knowledge and skills while ensuring compliance with all applicable local, state, provincial, and federal wage and hour laws.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise designated payroll team members and oversee daily activities.

  • Motivate and facilitate communication within the payroll team.

  • Ensure compliance with all Provincial laws and regulations for payroll processing in Canada.

  • Provide oversight and advice on US Payroll processing.

  • Recommend internal controls or efficiency enhancements.

  • Assist in mentoring and coaching the team to develop payroll knowledge and skills.

  • Troubleshoot to resolve errors and respond to escalated payroll concerns.

  • Partner with Human Resources to resolve complex payroll cases.

  • Oversee certified payroll reporting to ensure compliance for prevailing wage jobs.

  • Manage Child Support Orders, garnishments, and levies through ADP Smart Compliance.

  • Oversee the completion of monthly union fringe benefit reports and payments.

  • Assist with internal and external audits, and tax notices/issues.

  • Handle union-related matters, including updating payroll configurations and maintaining union documents.

  • Create and run requested reports, including year-end data, union fringes, and GL data.

  • Assist the Payroll Manager with year-end tasks and reconciliations for both the US and Canada.

Essential Skills

  • 8+ years of payroll experience, including 2+ years in a Lead or Supervisor role.

  • Strong US Payroll processing knowledge.

  • Experience in Union Payroll.

  • Experience with ADP or Workday.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Canada Payroll is a nice to have.

  • Ability to handle complex payroll cases and provide constructive feedback.

  • Strong communication and leadership skills.

Work Environment

The payroll team consists of seven members, with half located in Minnesota and others spread across the US. This role includes managing two direct reports and is considered a 'working manager' position, responsible for one payroll while focusing on leadership and people management. The role requires coming into the office on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with more frequent office presence during the initial training period. Normal working hours are flexible, with team members starting around 7am or 8am.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $36.05 - $52.88
