The Mission Assurance Manager is responsible for team leadership of the Armament Systems Business Unit’s Mission Assurance team, including Mission Assurance Engineers, Quality Systems Analysts, and a Program Quality organization. This role is responsible for nine individual contributors and one Manager. This position includes team members in Plymouth, MN and Mesa, AZ locations. This position reports directly to the Sr. Mission Assurance Manager for Armament Systems.

The Misson Assurance team is tightly integrated with all functions of Quality Management and Business Functional Areas in support of Program and Business Process mission success.

Mission Assurance is independent, focused strategically and systemically on Operating Unit and Program performance. The Mission Assurance Manager is an experienced leader, possessing demonstrated expertise in the core areas of strategy, process development, process analysis and performance management, operational excellence, risk management, and overall continuous improvement.

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Manager, Mission Assurance 2 located in either Plymouth, Minnesota or Mesa, AZ. Ability to travel minimum 25% to support team.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage team of Mission Assurance Engineers, Quality Business Systems Analysts, and an Operating Unit Program Quality Team (Direct Report = Manager).

  • Support and mentor team members by promoting professional development, fostering a collaborative environment, and endorsing ethical conduct.

  • Align with Operating Units (3) within the Business Unit and programs to monitor and ensure performance goals are achieved, by identifying, communicating, and mitigating risks and opportunities to the business and programs.

  • Work cross functionally and with leadership to identify and prioritize problems, create initiatives for business, operational, technical, and administrative process improvements, to reduce waste and quantifiably improve process efficiency & effectiveness.

  • Provide independent analysis of growth and execution strategies to leadership for pursue, development, test, and production.

  • Ensure robust program execution through program plan and schedule reviews combined with critical thinking to verify all key risks have been identified and satisfactorily mitigated.

  • Establish key project and process indicators / measures to assess project success and process performance.

  • Proactively work with functions and segments to continuously improve our Quality Management System and correct any identified deficiencies in support of our mission and strategies.

  • Evaluate business systems and processes for risk, problem identification, and correction. Ensuring that corrective measures address all stakeholders’ voices and meet acceptable reliability standards and that documentation is compliant with requirements.

  • Support Return to Green, Failure Analysis, and Corrective Action activities as independent resource with focus on full resolution and future risk mitigation.

  • Drive culture change toward more proactive risk mitigation, data driven decision making, and continuous improvement mindset.

  • Champion Continuous Improvement and Digital Transformation initiatives.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with 9 years of experience, Master’s with 7 years of experience, PhD with 4 years of experience.

  • Mission Assurance, Quality Assurance, Systems Engineering, Manufacturing, and/or Program Management experience.

  • 5 years of Leadership experience

  • Extensive Root Cause and Corrective Action experience

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills

  • Working knowledge of ISO 9000 and AS9100 quality management systems

  • Ability to obtain a Security Clearance and ATF Employee Possessor

  • Lean Agile and/or Six Sigma experience

  • Risk Management and Analysis

  • Process Performance Measurement, Analysis, Continuous Improvement

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience as a Quality Manager or a similar Mission Assurance role

  • ASQ Certified Quality Manager / Organizational Excellence (CQM/OE)

  • Program / Project Management Experience

  • Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) Awareness

  • Six Sigma Black Belt

  • Statistical Process Control

  • Experience interfacing with customer and government agencies

Salary Range: $119,300 - $197,600

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
