Job Title: Quality Control – Nondestructive Testing Technician Level II (MPI)

Department: Quality

Summary Tests and inspects products at various stages of the production process with an emphasis on Nondestructive Test (NDT). Sets up and operates Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Conduct Material Tests

  • The primary responsibility of the NDT technician is conducting material tests using magnetic particle testing. The NDT technician’s main goal is to identify material flaws, such as incomplete welds, cracks, corrosion, or gaps that may affect performance or cause safety issues.

  • Interpret Test Results

  • After conducting tests, NDT technicians interpret and analyze test results to assess materials. Notifies supervisor of defective processing of parts or materials. At times this will include removing surface defects, using hand tools, power tools, or abrasive solutions, or marking part defects for repair or discard depending on nature and extent of defects.

  • Prepare Test Reports

  • NDT technicians develop, update, and issue documentation related to the tests they have performed. These reports generally outline the procedures used, the results of the tests, and any recommendations for manufacturing professionals or engineers.

  • Calibrate and Maintain Equipment

  • NDT technicians ensure the accuracy of test results and prevent damage to materials by properly calibrating and maintaining their equipment. Examines equipment settings prior to conducting tests and adjusts settings depending on the type of material being tested.

  • Develop Processes and Procedures

  • Under guidance, NDT technicians support quality assurance activities and rigorous testing by developing processes and procedures for their own work and for the work of other NDT technicians and teams. In this aspect of the role, the NDT technician may develop policy and procedure manuals, conduct training activities, or demonstrate proper techniques for using machinery and maintaining test data. This includes ensuring compliance to the process for the Control of Records and Document Control Process.

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
