Job Description

The Position

Organon is seeking a motivated and experienced attorney to manage the team of attorneys and paralegals responsible for the Company’s litigation and investigations profile and portfolio. This position reports to the Vice President – Intellectual Property, Investigations, Litigation, and Employment Law.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a docket of high-profile litigation and investigation matters on behalf of Organon.

Investigations

  • Manage the investigations protocol including managing employees involved in the investigative process.

  • Manage internal and governmental investigations, ensuring timely reporting of issues and driving cases to closure.

  • Advise various levels of leadership on findings and the investigative docket.

  • Support the Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer in the development, implementation and revision, as necessary, of Organon’s investigations program, tools and systems, standards, policies and procedures as well as remediation activities in support of investigation and audit findings.

  • Collaborate closely with the compliance and privacy teams on all matters related to compliance programming.

  • Establish key performance indicators to capture and evaluate activity and contributing factors from investigations and lead improvement implementation.

  • Perform trend analysis, risk assessment and monitor remediation plans.

  • Ensure local and global standards, regularly mapping risks and driving corrective actions, where necessary.

  • Drive, build and scale process improvements based on closed case metrics, ethics survey results, audit results and external benchmarks. Identify the improvement areas and lead remediations.

Litigations

  • Supervise the team responsible for a global litigation portfolio comprised of product liability, employment, corporate and commercial matters, as well as various business torts.

  • Oversee the planning, strategy, and execution of litigation in federal, state and foreign courts.

  • Provide strategic counseling to senior management regarding material litigations.

  • Provide general risk reduction and litigation prevention advice on business development, cybersecurity, antitrust, securities, Environment, Social and Governance (ESG), and e-discovery issues.

  • Support learning initiatives related to litigation risks and communications.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to disseminate “lessons learned” that lower Organon’s litigation risk profile.

Required Education, Experience and Skills

  • Juris Doctor or equivalent.

  • Admitted to the Bar of New Jersey, Pennsylvania or another state.

  • Ten (10) or more years of experience with product liability litigation and internal and government investigations in a law firm, government or corporate setting.

  • Experience with False Claims Act (FCA), Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), Anti-Kickback Statute and other forms of fraud and abuse.

  • Familiarity with compliance investigations and risks in the context of life sciences, pharmaceutical, and/or medical device industries.

  • Experience with all aspects of litigation, including dispositive motion practice, depositions, oral argument, fact and expert discovery, trial and appeal.

  • Maintain up-to-date understanding of litigation and the law and proactively counsel business on legal developments potentially effecting company’s legal and reputational status.

  • Proven ability to effectively manage a significant workload, with the ability to balance competing priorities in a fast paced and challenging environment.

  • Proven ability to manage others effectively and efficiently including, managing their performance and promoting their professional development.

  • Ability to set and perform within applicable budgets.

  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate risks and exercise excellent legal judgment issues with a propensity for developing practical but legally appropriate solutions to issues and challenges.

  • Outstanding writing and communication skills, including presentations to senior executives.

  • Proficient in fostering an inclusive workplace where diversity of ideas and individual differences are valued.

  • Proven ability to drive innovative legal theories and approaches.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to establish and manage relationships with clients, co-counsel, and others.

  • Proactive attitude and approach, focused on pursuing and delivering results.
