Unit Description:

The Clinical Decision Unit is designed to hold patients whose medical conditions require specific clinically defined hospital-based services that include short term treatments, assessments and reassessments through periodic monitoring by staff who evaluate whether the patient can be discharged from the hospital or require inpatient status/admission. Patient expected Length of stay is 8-48 hours, therefore the admission/transfer/discharge activity, (ADT), of this unit is expected to be high and therefore fast paced. This clinical area features a pace similar to the Emergency Room with diagnostic work ups and care needs in a telemetry setting.

Responsibilities:

The nurse will assess, plan, implement, evaluate, educate and document the nursing care of patients set forth by organizational policies and in accordance with the standards of professional nursing practice. This position utilizes specialized knowledge, judgement, and nursing skills necessary to assess data and plan, as well as, provide and evaluate care appropriate to the patient to facilitate a safe discharge.

Minimum Requirements

  • Current Massachusetts RN License

  • Evidence of Continued Education

  • 12 months of recent Acute Care RN experience preferred

  • Current Telemetry experience preferred

  • Current AHA BLS certification

  • Utilizes appropriate time management skills. Communicates effectively

Recommended Requirements

  • Documented Professional Development activities

  • Knowledge of Critical Paths

  • Charge Nurse experience preferred
