The Opportunity

This position works out of our Pleasanton, CA location in the Heart Failure division. In Abbott’s Heart Failure (HF) business, we’re developing solutions to diagnose, monitor and manage heart failure, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives. We are recruiting for an R&D Project Manager to join our Heart Failure (HF) R&D Team. This is a high growth business division working on Mechanical Circulatory and Pressure Measurement Systems. The Project Manager provides project management expertise to enable crisp execution in a cross-functional core/project team by partnering with the Program Manager and cross-functional team members in project planning, execution, and monitoring. Under general guidance from the Program Manager, the Project Manager assists Core Team members in interpreting and implementing the requirements of the Abbott Heart Failure new product development process and applicable internal procedures.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Manage the operational aspects of assigned projects under general guidance from the Program Manager including project budget, resource management and deliverable tracking.

  • Create and maintain a project management framework that enables core teams to successfully execute projects.

  • Maintain and analyze project schedules and prepare regular status reports for the Core Team, Extended Team, or management.

  • Track project risks, opportunities, and issues to develop resolutions that meet quality and timeline goals and objectives.

  • Assist in monitoring and improving project planning elements of the Product Development Process.

  • Maintain project plans and schedules.

  • Collect project task information and run project meetings as needed.

  • Create and develop PDP documentation (e.g., routers, BOMs, MPs, PMVMs).

  • Expedite routine transactions through the plant (e.g., material transfers, shipping, Electronic Change Orders (ECOs), and product builds).

  • Maintain the project’s Design History File by ensuring it stays updated according to standing guidelines.

  • Maintain and update issues log and risk registry.

  • Maintain and monitor project budgets.

  • Assist the project/program manager in day-to-day activities.

  • Assist the Project Management Office in metrics collection and analysis.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Science discipline or an equivalent combination of education and work experience

  • Minimum 5 years leading projects in a medical device, biomedical or high technology industry. \

  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.

  • Strong computer skills, preferably with Microsoft Project experience.

  • Knowledge and experience in project planning and monitoring. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Good interpersonal skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to work in a matrix organization with the desire to develop collaborative relationships within the PMO and multiple functional organizations (Research and Development, Quality, Regulatory, Operations, Marketing, etc.).

  • Aility to work well under pressure and maintain a positive, enthusiastic attitude. Eagerness to learn and expand responsibilities.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and build strong working relationships.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree preferred.

  • 5 years of medical device industry experience.

  • Program/Project Management certifications.

  • Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross division business unit model.

The base pay for this position is $112,000.00 – $224,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
