This position is covered by the Partnership Agreement between the State of Colorado and Colorado Workers for Innovative and New Solutions (COWins).
New employees to the State will be paid biweekly. There are 26 biweekly pay periods in a year.

DESCRIPTION OF JOB:
About the Work Unit The work unit exists to maintain the Colorado Department of Transportation highway system and facilities to as near original conditions as constructed utilizing available resources, personnel, equipment and material, ensuring a safe roadway for the traveling public.
About the Position This position supervises the Platteville maintenance area. This position provides safe travel for the traveling public using preservation techniques to extend the life of CDOT s assets through asset management and understanding asset conditions. This position implements and has direct control for planning, developing, scheduling, initiating, administering, and managing the maintenance and operations for all the major activity groups of the Maintenance Management System for an assigned geographic area consisting of multiple maintenance patrols. This position makes decisions to plan, develop, administer, and manage programs, guidelines, rules, standards, budgets, personnel, equipment, buildings and grounds, contracts, rest areas, and emergency response incidents. This position must evaluate situations, interpret and initiate processes and procedures, and initiate changes, particularly in emergency conditions and unique situations or circumstances. As a manager, this position conducts performance management, provides mentoring and training for patrol supervisors and members, and communicates information between management and employees. This position works closely with other CDOT units and outside agencies to plan for and respond to maintenance issues. This position acts as Incident Commander for a variety of emergency situations. All duties are performed with a safety consciousness and the goal to provide exceptional internal and external customer service. This position must continually learn and develop job knowledge to keep up with changes in procedures, technology, and priorities. This position must maintain operational readiness for snow events and other emergencies and will be placed on call.
Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Lead, supervise, and manage the John maintenance area (Platteville, Greeley, Hudson, Fort Lupton, Pierce, and Wiggins); conduct performance management; train and mentor employees; determine he overall work plan for the unit and monitor work for quality control and efficiency; act as a change agent; foster a positive working environment; Ensure interactions with employees and internal and external customers are professional; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; develop and maintain effective working relationships; Interpret, implement, manage and provide direction pertaining to policies, rules, and regulations to direct and indirect reports related to maintenance program activities (MPAs) to accomplish CDOT s Mission and Goals and overall objectives and provide input to the Deputy Superintendents, Superintendent, and Regional Transportation Director; Respond to all types of highway-related incidents 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, from traffic accidents, snow and ice events, hazmat spills, natural disasters, road closures, accidents, and incidents in order to provide appropriate level of incident management and to ensure CDOT s policies and procedures are followed and met; Provide on-site supervision for complex maintenance projects and operations under extraordinary circumstances, such as weather, accidents, haz-mat spills, avalanches, and road failures; Develop snowstorm and other incident management plans, including conducting pre- and post-storm meetings with personnel; Determine, coordinate, and obtain appropriate resources needed to manage the incident or maintenance project;
