Laboratory Manager

We specialize in emergency medicine and trauma, cardiology, neurosurgery and spine, advanced orthopedics, women’s services, adult and adolescent behavioral health, an adult intensive care unit and state of the art and technologically advanced surgical services. Plus, we’re a Level II Trauma Facility, the only health care facility in Collin County to have achieved both the Level IV NICU and Level IV Maternal facility designation and have a DNV-certified Comprehensive Stroke Program.

Texas Health Plano is a four-time Magnet-designated hospital, the only AACN Beacon Gold adult intensive care unit in the DFW area, accredited by the Joint Commission in Hip and Knee Replacement and a Primary Heart Attack Center. Job Description

Technical Operations:

Responsible for using technical and professional knowledge and skills to facilitate and manage the daily operations of the assigned section/cost center.

Responsible for the daily functions and activities of the section/cost center.

Assists in performing unusual or difficult tests and procedures.

Directs, supervises, or coordinates technical functions and activities in any or all divisions of the department.

Establishes and implements procedures, and evaluates new products, equipment, techniques, and methodologies; introduces, demonstrates, and recommends as appropriate.

Human Resources:

Provides leadership for all aspects of the section/cost center operation including problem solving, employee relations, delegation of duties, and workload management.

Employee problems and issues are handled promptly and effectively.

Provide mentoring, delegation and coaching in a timely manner.

Payroll information is recorded accurately and processed in a timely manner.

Financial Management:

Responsible for the management of the section/cost center resources within the guidelines of the budget and productivity indicators.

Develops budget and is responsible for monitoring departmental budget including computing lab test volumes, identifying cost efficient opportunities, determining charges, in consultation with the director of laboratory administration.

Continuous Improvement/Satisfaction:

Maintains a working knowledge of continuous improvement and provides leadership and direction in the application of CI concepts and processes to the satisfaction of all accrediting agency requirements for the assigned section/cost center.

Responsible for the documentation required for accreditation.

Provide technical support and problem solving skills.

Instruments functioning properly and calibrated correctly.

Provide accuracy and quality operation of the department.

Provide timely evaluation for quality review of department operations.

Provide mentoring and quality operation of the department.

Safety and Compliance:

Responsible for the section/cost center compliance for regulatory requirements for safety, infection control, privacy, ethical behavior guidelines and billing compliance.

Designs and implements systems and processes to meet the regulatory requirements.

CAP proficiency testing is performed to verify competency and quality.

Develops and maintains departmental policies and procedures, objectives, QA program, proficiency testing program, infection control and safety policies, and monitors compliance for each of departments.

Directs documentation, establishes record system and ensures the maintenance of all laboratory records, reports, statistics, logs, and files.

Leadership:

Serves on committees within and outside the Laboratory Department to disseminate information, improve quality of services and to reduce costs.

Coordinates with other THR entities within the system to improve standardization of products, to share ideas for improved services or for problem resolution.

Participates in future planning and the development of strategic plans for section/cost center.

Meets KPIs related to special projects Communicates to direct report the strategic direction for the section/cost center.

Education

Bachelor's Degree Medical Technology or equivalent Required

Or

Bachelor's Degree Cytology or equivalent if in anatomic pathology area Required

Experience

5 Years experience in specialty Required

and

3 Years progressive leadership experience Required

Supervisory Experience Preferred

Licenses and Certifications

MT(ASCP) - Medical Technologist or equivalent Upon Hire Required

Or

Other AMT, AAB, HHS, NCA, HEW, CLS- CA, FL, NY state license, Philippine Board of Technical Technology Upon Hire Required

Or

CT(ASCP) - Cytotechnologist if in anatomic pathology area Upon Hire Required

Or

CT(IAC) - Cytotechnologist if in anatomic pathology area Upon Hire Required

Or

SCT(ASCP) - Specialist in Cytotechnology if in anatomic pathology area Upon Hire Required

Or

HT(ASCP) - Histotechnician if in anatomic pathology area Upon Hire Required

Or

HTL(ASCP) - Histotechnologist if in anatomic pathology area Upon Hire Required
