JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Are you passionate about empowering students to achieve their educational dreams? Join Penn State's Office of Educational Equity TRIO Talent Search project as a Talent Search Counselor and make a lasting impact on the lives of middle and high school students in the New Kensington-Arnold School District. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of working effectively with middle and high school students in a team environment.

Penn State's TRIO Talent Search projects, funded by grants from the U.S. Department of Education, are dedicated to assisting first-generation students in achieving their bachelor's degrees. Our program operates within the New Kensington-Arnold School District Valley Junior/Senior High School and serves as a beacon of opportunity.

In this role, you will play a crucial part providing career exploration, academic advising, and postsecondary preparation services to middle and high school participants, with the focus on positioning them to meet the following core objectives of the project:

Guiding non-senior participants through rigorous coursework and grade progression.

Ensuring timely high school graduation and successful transition to postsecondary education.

Facilitating seamless matriculation to postsecondary institutions immediately after high school graduation.

Supporting participants in obtaining postsecondary credentials within six years of high school graduation.

The Talent Search Counselor serves as the Penn State on-site program liaison/contact with school district personnel. The ideal candidate will have experience in the following knowledge areas:

Collaborating with school district personnel to assist participants with scheduling courses and providing academic counseling and support services necessary to ensure completion of a rigorous curriculum.

Reviewing and monitoring participants' academic progress to guide implementation of grade-level appropriate activities, focused on postsecondary goals integrated with a salient career focus.

Assisting participants with the exploration of postsecondary options and completing applications for postsecondary education. Helping participants understand the academic requirements of various postsecondary educational options.

Providing information about financial aid and assisting participants with the financial aid and scholarship application process. Helping participants interpret financial aid packages.

Coordinating and chaperoning postsecondary campus tours and career focused field trips.

Coordinating onsite career focused workshops utilizing community resources.

Developing and maintaining a network of professional relationships with postsecondary institutions and community agencies.

This is a limited-term appointment ending June 30, 2025, with an excellent possibility of renewal. This is an 83.3% full-time equivalency (FTE) job. On an annual basis this is a 10-month limited-term appointment run ing from mid-August through mid-June. The job is site-based within the New Kensington-Arnold School District and requires some overnight travel, evening, and weekend hours. Full Penn State benefits included.

Education and Experience: This position minimally requires a bachelor's degree or higher with at least one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Background check: This position requires the following clearances: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is: $42,100.00 - $61,000.00

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR).
