Duquesne Light Company Supv Overhead Inspection in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Overall Purpose:

As the Supervisor of Overhead Inspection, you will manage and lead a team of inspectors to investigate Duquesne Light’s electrical assets per the Public Utility Commission Inspection & Maintenance Plan (PUC I&M Plan) which include wood poles, equipment, transformers, and electrical circuits. You will also track and plan out yearly inspections, review budgets, create work orders and review inspection data.

Location: Hybrid (see below), downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at Woods Run Complex

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assign and schedule resources to satisfy Duquesne Light’s PUC I&M plan which includes pole testing, equipment inspections, and infrared inspections.

  • Assign additional inspection work to team members outside of the I&M plan to support the safety and reliability of DLC’s assets.

  • Coordinate with the Operations, Asset Management, and Engineering Departments to address prioritization of projects so that PUC and Corporate deadlines are met.

  • Provide QA/QC on inspection data; contact other departments to correct data/field issues when discovered.

  • Schedule and create work orders within Duquesne Light’s work management system (Maximo).

  • Provide status update reports on a weekly or monthly basis to various groups across the company to ensure deadlines are met.

  • Participate in schedule and budget reviews to ensure timely completion of projects or inspections.

  • Coordinate with the Training Department to provide the necessary training and training materials for engineering personnel or team on any new or existing policies.

  • Respond to team safety issues, reviews company safety correspondences, and conducts internal inspections vehicle audits, and observations.

  • Provide training to the assigned group on proper pole testing process/procedures and Thermography in the classroom and in the field.

  • Make recommendations on inspection procedures which could include new technologies and equipment to help improve current processes.

  • Review and manage inspection equipment by sending it out for calibration or repairs.

  • Order additional equipment, material, and other miscellaneous items to support the inspection team

Education/Experience:

  • Requires a college degree in a related discipline.

  • In lieu of a degree, a commensurate combination of education and experience will be considered.

  • Five (5) or more years of relevant experience required.

  • Electrical experience preferred.

  • Previous management experience preferred.

  • Experience working in a union environment preferred.

  • Valid driver’s license required.

Skills and Experience Utilized in this Role Include:

  • Familiar with OSHA and industry safety practices.

  • A highly driven, self-motivated and enthusiastic leader capable of communicating, motivating, and driving an organization toward change and positive improvement.

  • Proven ability to make accurate decisions and demonstrate sound judgment.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong computer skills and information system knowledge with experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.

Supervisory:

Typically, the front-line supervisor to union staff or support track staff. May manage a small group of both staff and professional employees in a narrow focus area and typically used as first entry into leadership for employees without prior leadership experience.

Decision Impact:

Problems and issues are undefined and require detailed information gathering, analysis, and investigation to understand/resolve. Makes decisions that address workflow issues considering immediate impact on own function or work unit.

Scope:

Primary focus is on day-to-day management of operational execution for areas managed. Trains and develops staff. Plans the workflow. Directs available resources to accomplish process improvement. Leads workflow changes and implementations for direct team.

Hybrid Work:

Position follows our hybrid work model, with a minimum of two days working in the office and the remaining days working remotely. Reporting location and frequency may be subject to change based on job role and department needs.

Storm Roles:

Examples of storm roles could include but aren't limited to duties such as: working with operations for service center support or with the communications, customer service or government affairs teams to respond to public and customer requests for information, etc.

Data Governance:

Utilize data to make business decisions as appropriate for the position, support data stewardship activities and partner with IT on underlying data needs.
