Research Technician

 

The Laboratory of Ocular Biomechanics (LOB) at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking candidates for a Laboratory Research Technician II position. The research goal is to prevent vision loss in biomechanics-related diseases, such as glaucoma, and to identify the optimal patient-specific course of treatment.

 

The position requires a B.S. in a science discipline. The following (or equivalent) are highly desired:

  • Experience with basic lab procedures and safety
  • Experience with tissue processing and histology
  • Experience with image analysis
  • Experience working in an academic medical research environment
  • Experience working with the eye is not required. Job Summary

Performs a variety of laboratory experiments and procedures. Prepares specimens. Oversees supply management. Operates and properly maintains equipment.

Essential Functions

Specific duties include:

  • Sample preparation and histology processing
  • Acquire and analyze images from microscopy
  • Safe handling and usage of laboratory chemicals
  • Perform experiments on animal tissue
  • Organize laboratory data and supplies
  • Write, update and file laboratory protocols
  • Coordinate with other labs and collaborators
  • Help with the preparation and management of manuscripts and grant applications (not individually, but in support of the PI and others in the lab). Physical Effort

Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time. Must be able to move and control delicate microscopy and histology equipment and samples.
