University of Pittsburgh Research Scientist in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Research Scientist

The Vasudevan lab (www.flystresslab.com) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Research Scientist to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have 5--7 years of relevant experience and hold a Ph.D. in a biology-related field. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research aimed at unraveling the molecular regulatory mechanisms of the integrated stress response (ISR) pathway, with a focus on its implications for retinopathies and metabolic diseases.

Our lab investigates the intricate molecular processes underlying ISR signaling, including mRNA translation, post-translational modifications, and transcriptional regulation. We employ a multifaceted approach, utilizing a Drosophila model to study the visual system's function in human retinopathies and cultured human cells to delve into the pathway's molecular details. Our methodologies include techniques such as tissue culture, Western blotting, polysome profiling, Drosophila genetics and husbandry, microdissections, and confocal microscopy.

The successful candidate will bring expertise in these techniques or demonstrate proficiency in some with the capacity to quickly learn the others. We seek an individual who thrives in a collaborative environment, values teamwork, and exhibits excellent organizational skills and executive function. A strong commitment to fostering a collegial and productive laboratory environment is essential. If you are passionate about making significant contributions to the field of visual system research, we encourage you to apply with a cover letter stating your interests and CV.
