Responsibilities: The Research Associate will join an NIH-funded laboratory focused on the molecular genetics of mycobacteria and their bacteriophages. The research will include studies focusing on the functional genomic analysis of mycobacteriophages, the physical characterization of mycobacteriophage virions, and the investigation of the mechanisms that influence the specificity of host range by mycobacteriophages and related viruses. These studies will be under the direction of Graham Hatfull and will include participation in the general scholarly activities of our research group. The candidate will be expected to perform experiments, analyze data, and participate in the preparation of scientific manuscripts.

Qualifications: Qualified candidates will hold a Ph.D. in one of the biological sciences and have 1 or more years of postdoctoral experience. At a minimum, candidates should have experience in mycobacteria and mycobacteriophages including the use and development of genetic tools for engineering mycobacteria and the mycobacteriophages, as well as experience working under BSLIII containment with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Preferred experiences include functional genomic analysis of mycobacteriophages, physical characterization of mycobacteriophage virions, analysis of DNA packaging systems including in vivo and in vitro packaging, and the investigation of the mechanisms that influence the specificity of host range by mycobacteriophages and related viruses. The successful candidate will have extensive experience with mycobacteria and mycobacteriophages including the use and development of genetic tools for engineering mycobacteria and the mycobacteriophages, as well as experience working under BSLIII containment with Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
