UPMC Research Assistant III - STAR in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

This is a multi-faceted position in the STAR Research department. The goal of the department is to develop effective assessments, prevention, and treatments of depressed and suicidal adolescents. The role of this position across the department is includes aiding recruitment, data collection, and data management.

This position is grant funded.

Participant-facing tasks:

  • Independently execute research protocols including recruiting, screening, and scheduling of participants and obtaining consent forms

  • Complete and participant payments promptly and accurately

  • Collaborate on recruitment of research participants through social media-based advertisements, in clinical settings, and within the community

  • Create recruitment materials and posts that are engaging and youth-friendly

  • Provide a safe, comfortable, and affirming environment for all research participants

  • Demonstrate a high comfort level in working with youth from minoritized backgrounds (youth of color and LGBTQ+ youth)

Communication with Research and Clinical Faculty/Staff:

  • Attend and participate in all project-related meetings, including regular staff meetings, clinical supervision calls and meetings, and research team meetings.

  • Extensive interaction with the research team to ensure recruitment, treatment, and data collection proceed according to schedule.

  • Interact as needed with private app developers, to assure phone app development and maintenance are occurring as planned and on schedule.

  • Interface effectively with research staff in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Akron, Chicago, Harvard, and Carnegie Mellon University to maintain efficient communication about data collection

Tracking data flow and additional tasks:

  • Maintain records of subject contact, subject interviews, and clinical assessments.

  • Prepare narratives of clinical assessments and attend regular consensus and clinical supervision meetings.

  • Screen, consent, and conduct assessments

  • Report progress of recruitment in accordance with the study timeline at weekly meetings with Program Director and research team

  • Aid in creation of study-related data collection and tracking systems

  • Properly address protocols for data security and maintaining participant confidentiality

  • Maintain the social media presence for the ETUDES Center

  • Support the development of study interventions through identification of appropriate resources, contributing to the creation of mock-ups and web-based content, as needed

  • Communicate effectively with faculty, research staff, community members, participants, and their families

  • High school diploma or GED required. Some college preferred.

  • Familiarity with computers and common software packages required.

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent grammar, written and verbal communication, and proofreading skills.

  • Effectively and diplomatically interact with professionals, subjects, and their families.

  • Flexible working hours (some evenings).

  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.

  • Knowledge of research methodology strongly preferred.

  • Prior research experience preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal

  • Act 33 with renewal

  • Act 34 with renewal

  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
