The newly established Lab of John Manion in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is recruiting a post-doctoral associate. The Manion Lab investigates the interface between microbes and barrier tissue cells at mucosal surfaces using novel technological approaches. The incumbent will work on the interaction of neurons and pericytes in the intestine, as well as the contribution of neurons to infectious disease pathogenesis. Your duties will include culture of primary cells from mice, biochemistry, mouse genetics, molecular and cellular biochemistry, including the purification of proteins, viruses, and cell culture. In addition, you will have other duties normally associated with postdoctoral work, including preparing manuscripts and providing day-to-day supervision and assistance to postdocs, graduate students, and research technicians in the lab. Applicants should have a Doctorate degree in gastrointestinal pathology or physiology. Experience with mammalian cell culture, primary culture, virus and protein purification, manipulation of human tissue, and in vivo experimentation of the intestine (Models of colitis or bacterial infection) is required.
