This position is at the Learning Research and Development Center (LRDC), a multi-disciplinary center for research to advance the science of learning by bringing together leading researchers in the cognitive, social, and educational sciences.

Project: Interdisciplinary Digital Experiential Learning and Community Engagement

Organizations: Center for Analytical Approaches to Social Innovation (CAASI), Graduate School of Public and International Affairs (GSPIA), Katz School of Business, Learning Research and Development Center (LRDC), School of Computing and Information Sciences (SCI), School of Social Work (SSW), University of Pittsburgh Job Description: Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position to join an interdisciplinary team of researchers and educators at the University of Pittsburgh. This collaborative project, funded by the LRDC, aims to integrate the 412Connect digital scavenger hunt (412Connect.org) with the LearnDataAdvocacy role-based data literacy platform to enhance experiential learning through within-classroom collaborations at Pitt and collaborations between students and the local community. The successful candidate will be mentored by Drs. Erin Walker and Sera Linardi, as well as collaborate with Dr. Rosta Farzan, Dr. Kay Shimizu, Dr. Jamie Booth, Dr. Michael Hamilton, and CAASI Administrator and Project Manager, Daniel Little. Key Responsibilities: Co-Design and Implementation: Lead co-design sessions with community members, students, and faculty to refine and integrate the 412Connect and LearnDataAdvocacy platforms. Research and Analysis: Conduct qualitative and quantitative research to evaluate the effectiveness of the integrated tools in fostering collaborative learning and community engagement. Development and Deployment: Assist in the development, deployment, and iterative improvement of digital tools in classroom settings. Community Engagement: Engage with local communities to ensure the tools meet their needs and support mutual learning outcomes. Publication and Dissemination: Present findings at conferences, publish in academic journals and contribute to reports and grant proposals. Qualifications: Education: Recent or expected PhD in education, developmental psychology, computer science, learning sciences, social work, or a related field. Skills: Strong grounding in community engagement, human-computer interaction, data science, and co-design methodologies. Experience: Prior experience in community-based research, mixed-methods approaches (qualitative and quantitative), and working with underserved groups is highly desirable. Appointment Details: Duration: Initially one year, with the possibility of extending to two years contingent on securing additional funding. The position is funded starting July 1, 2024 (start date negotiable). Location: Learning Research and Development Center (LRDC) and Center for Analytical Approaches to Social Innovation (CAASI), University of Pittsburgh.

Degree- Major/Field/Concentration: Recent or expected PhD in education, developmental psychology, computer science, learning sciences, social work, or a related field.
