DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES: Summary: This position will provide knowledge of mining engineering, technical expertise, project planning and development, project management, mentoring, and business development/marketing services primarily in support of mining and abandoned mine reclamation projects primarily related to mine subsidence and mine subsidence control or mitigation. Projects will be primarily located in Pennsylvania (both the Bituminous coal and Anthracite regions) , Maryland, West Virginia, Kentucky, and O hio, but may also be located in other Appalachian states or elsewhere across the country. Projects will be completed in accordance with appropriate state and federal regulations and accepted engineering standards. Tasks may involve site investigations, abandoned mine inspections, evaluation of reclamation techniques (including innovative technologies), designs, and/or construction management related to mining and abandoned mine reclamation primarily focused on mine subsidence and mine subsidence control or mitigation. An understanding of the geology of Appalachian coal seams and the associated mining techniques will be beneficial. Experience with plans and specifications, property owner access agreements, and environmental permitting will also be beneficial. Registration as a professional engineer in Pennsylvania is required. Registration as a professional engineer in any of the other Appalachian states is a plus.

Your Role:  * Work with clients, developers, stakeholders; watershed groups; landowners; federal, state, and local government officials; and other Tetra Tech staff with diverse technical backgrounds to plan, develop or otherwise facilitate mining and abandoned mine reclamation projects.  * Oversee, complete or support the preparation and/or review of project designs for mining and abandoned mine reclamation projects including completing or supporting investigations, assessments, permit applications, engineering studies, design, and construction-phase services primarily related to mine subsidence and mine subsidence control or mitigation .  * Mentor new and inexperienced staff. Duties would include demonstration of best practices both in the office and also in the field.  * Prepare engineering reports, cost estimates, alternative analyses, plans and specifications, permit applications, construction schedules, and related correspondence in support of mining and abandoned mine reclamation projects primarily focused on mine subsidence and mine subsidence control or mitigation.

Qualifications:  * Bachelor of Science degree in Mining Engineering required.  * The candidate must have 15 or more years of experience working directly on or overseeing mining and/or abandoned mine reclamation projects focused on mine subsidence and mine subsidence control or mitigation.  * Experience with design or with review of designs for AML reclamation sites, mining reclamation sites or other similar site restoration/reclamation projects.  * Experience with reclamation specifications and construction plan development and/or interpretation.  * Experience with erosion and sediment control and stormwater design and permitting.  * Experience with geotechnical investigation and analysis.  * Knowledge of AML Laws and familiarity with regulatory and permitting agencies having authority over environmental impacts.  * Experience working for state and/or other governmental agencies.  * Must be able to read, interpret, and understand design drawings and specifications, mine permit applications and regulations, mine maps, and other technical or engineering reports.  * Must have exceptional communication skills (client relations, team project communications, and proposal and report development).  * Must have MS Word and Excel knowledge for preparation of reports, proposals, compiling data, and the development of other various documents.  * Must be an independent thinker and be able t take over projects with minimal training and with minimal direct oversight.  * Must have 15 or more years' experience working directly on mining and/or abandoned mine reclamation projects primarily focused on mine subsidence and mine subsidence control or mitigation projects.  * Registration as a professional engineer in Pennsylvania is required.  * A Pre-employment drug screen in compliance with state regulations is required.  * Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.
