University of Pittsburgh Faculty.Professor.Associate - Full-Time in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

The Department of Physician Assistant (PA) Studies seeks a full-time principal faculty member at the rank of Associate Professor in the non-tenure stream for the Department of PA Studies who will act as the primary collaborator for creating continuing education courses to serve the needs of community partners and will have primary teaching responsibilities.

Job Description:

Position Title: Associate Professor

Essential Functions:

Serve as Associate Professor in the Department of PA Studies through the following additional duties, as assigned by the Department Chair:

§ Establishing and implementing a mission, vision, and plan for continuing education in the Department of PA Studies

§ Continuing and expanding continuing education courses (and other educational courses) to serve the ongoing and future needs of fellow healthcare providers and other external partners

§ Providing student instruction, including primary responsibility for providing and coordinating the instruction of the Fundamental of Surgery course for the on-campus entry-level PA Program and contributing to lectures in other courses, as needed

§ Evaluating student performance

§ Advising and mentoring students

§ Evaluating the Programs of the Department

§ Participating in Department and Program committees

§ Collaborating with staff and faculty of all programs

§ Serving as the primary liaison with external partners in the creation of and enrollment in continuing education courses

§ Collaborating on and engaging in research and other scholarly activity regarding educational and professional practice

§ Communicating and advancing the strategic plan and initiatives of the University, School, and Department, including championing the commitment to Diversity and Inclusion and fostering an environment where all members of the university community can thrive.

§ Representing of the Program on Department-, School-, and University-level committees and in community service activities

§ Actively participating in local, regional, and national PA educational and professional organizations

§ Maintaining applicable professional certification(s) (NCCPA, etc.)

§ Supporting and participating in professional development opportunities and scholarly activities.

§ Maintaining a collegial learning and working environment for the faculty, staff, students, community partners, and other vital parties.

§ Assisting in upholding current and development of new Department and Program policies and procedures.

§ Performing other duties/tasks as assigned by the Department Chair.

Qualifications and Experience:

Required:

§ Proven leadership experience in creating and leading continuing education courses

§ Proven experience in collaborating and securing relationships with external partners

§ Prior teaching, scholarship, and/or research experience at the professional level

§ Three years of experience in clinical practice as a Physician Assistant/Physician Associate

§ Current National Commission on Certification of PAs (NCCPA) certification

§ Master's Degree in PA Studies or a related field

Preferred:

§ Record of intra- and extramural funding for training and/or research activities

§ Doctor of Philosophy, Doctor of Education, or other Research or Professional Doctoral degree (either existing or in process)

Rank is commensurate with academic experience and credentials, with the following as a general guide:

  • Candidates at the Associate Professor level should have six or more years of clinical care experience and demonstrate evidence of significant educational or new clinical program development and/or a record of substantial clinical, translational, or basic science research.
