Director of Administration
The University Center for Social and Urban Research (UCSUR) is one of three interdisciplinary, research-intensive centers at the University of Pittsburgh. The mission of UCSUR is to work collaboratively to conduct interdisciplinary research that improves communities and addresses social, economic, health and policy issues most relevant to society.
Traditionally, UCSUR's specific goals have fallen into four broad domains:
- Provide state-of-the-art research support services and infrastructure
- Support the community service mission of the University
- Develop nationally recognized research programs within the center
- Support the teaching mission of the University
We invite you to become a key staff member of the UCSUR team as the Director of Administration. In this role, you will report directly to, serve as a delegate for, and advise the Director on matters of compliance and operational issues within UCSUR. This position provides oversight and directs operations; serves as a strategic advisor to the Director and senior staff; manages highly visible and complex projects for the Director; handles internal and external relations; and works with the Director to implement strategic budgeting and model the financial implications of proposed initiatives.
Business Operations responsibilities include providing oversight and leadership of finance, human resources, payroll, facilities functions, information technology, and administrative support. As a strategic advisor, the director of administration provides counsel and advice in the development, integration, and implementation of UCSUR's strategic goals and initiatives. As a project manager for the Director, the director of administration will manage both Director and unit-wide projects, collaborating with the Director to develop project objectives and manage projects to completion.
Master's Degree, previous university experience, and experience in project, budget, and/or human resources management are preferred.
Job Summary
Serves as trusted advisor to senior leadership and advises on programs, initiatives, and special projects. Translates strategic plans into operational plans. Oversees communications, promotions, and public relations for unit. Develops effective partnerships throughout the University to advance University vision. Develops and administers the operating budget.
Essential Functions
The Director of Administration is a key leadership position that reports directly to the Director of UCSUR and serves as the lead for all administrative functions in the unit. Incumbent must have strong business acumen with the ability to analyze complex data, assess risk, identify opportunities and align their actions with the goals and objectives of the organization. Must be able to accurately use computer software and university systems. Must have outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal.
Physical Effort
Most work is sedentary, completed within an office setting. Some meetings are performed at other locations on and off-campus. Employee must be able to move about the campus and travel to locations outside of the University of Pittsburgh.
