Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania Director, Member Health & Safety in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
The Director, Member Health & Safety will lead initiatives to promote the health and safety of all campers, members, and volunteers of Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania and serve as a front-line resource for health and safety issues. The Director will identify, evaluate, and manage health and safety risks that the council may encounter, as well as gauge potential risks through research and assessment. The Director will be instrumental in fostering a safe environment for all participants.
The essential function of this position include:
Health Assessment and Risk Management:
- Develop and maintain a process for collection, review and analysis of submitted Accident/Incident Reports
- Participate in the safety committee to assess and address health and safety concerns at Girl Scout Western PA properties, programs, and events
- Assess health and safety risks through regular audits and evaluations of camp environments and procedures
Analyze risk reports and develop action plans to address identified issues, enhancing overall safety measures
Procedure Development:
- Evaluate and implement health, wellness, and safety procedures for camps, aligning with best practices and regulatory standards
Create and update safety protocols and emergency response plans to mitigate risks for campers, staff, and volunteers
Training and Education:
- Train summer camp healthcare staff, ensuring they are equipped to address health, safety and medical needs of campers and participants
- Ensure that ACA (American Camping Association) standards are met and staff trained to follow proper protocol for medication administration
Develop and deliver training programs on health and safety topics for staff and volunteers, including first aid, CPR, mental health, emergency procedures, and wellness initiatives
Community Engagement:
- Collaborate with community organizations and health professionals to promote wellness initiatives and health education programs
Advocate for the health and safety needs of the Girl Scouts community, fostering partnerships to enhance support services
Reporting and Compliance:
- Maintain accurate records of health and safety incidents, training sessions, and evaluations for reporting purposes
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal health regulations and guidelines
Ensure compliance with ACA (American Camping Association) standards
Program Development:
- Innovate and implement health and wellness programs that support the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of campers and staff
Evaluate the effectiveness of health and wellness programs, making recommendations for improvements as needed
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Current RN licensure in Pennsylvania
Experience in camp nursing or similar healthcare setting preferred
Desired Skills:
- Knowledge of community health issues, particularly those affecting children and youth
- Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience in risk management and safety protocol development
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and willingness to learn new programs
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups and stakeholders
Working Conditions:
- Position requires occasional evening and weekend hours, particularly during summer camp (July-August)
- Ability to work in outdoor settings and engage with campers of varying ages
Frequent travel required throughout western PA
