DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Clerical Assistant 3, you will participate in the hearing process by reviewing incoming appeals and determining the proper location for the hearing to be held and the type of hearing in accordance with the statute and regulations.  You will also determine what exhibits are relevant to the issue of law involved in the hearing and organize the case file to ensure the record is complete.  Additional duties include preparing hearing notices, scheduling appeal hearings, and assisting referees in processing requests for continuances, withdrawals, subpoenas, and interpretation.  You will transcribe recorded dictation of decisions from referees and prepare decisions from typed drafts, which may involve technical and complex legal matters. Excellent interpersonal skills are essential, as you will be in frequent contact with claimants, employers, attorneys, other state agencies, legislative offices, and more to manage requests for records and respond to questions regarding the UC claims and appeals system information and processes.  We are looking for someone with strong attention to detail and grammatical proficiency to input appropriate data into the automated computer appeals tracking system to ensure timely and accurate disposition of appeals.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.  Work hours are negotiable. Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week upon successful completion of the training period.  In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.  If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Pittsburgh. Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: One year as a Clerical Assistant 2 (commonwealth title); or One year of moderately complex clerical experience; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
