Shady Side Academy Campus Safety Guard in PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania
Campus Safety Security Guard -- Afternoon/Evening Schedule
Work schedule: Friday, Saturday, Sunday, 3pm-11pm (3 shifts), Monday, Tuesday, 11pm-7am (2 shifts)
Conduct patrols on Shady Side Academy campus to ensure security of buildings, students, and staff. Responds to requests for assistance and emergencies. Provides for the general security of Shady Side Academy campuses and responds to calls for service.
Direct traffic at the beginning and end of the school day, as well as for special events.
Patrol the interior of buildings and outer perimeter of campus.
Assists with school drills (fire, lock down, evacuation).
Must possess good interpersonal relationship skills using tact, patience and courtesy, particularly with respect to children.
Must have the ability to deal with dissatisfied individuals.
Check on the safety and welfare of the custodial staff, especially those working afternoon and midnight shifts.
During prolonged periods of non-use, security will make sure that essential lighting is turned on and non-essential lighting is turned off.
Check all mechanical rooms and make sure the boilers and other essential equipment are operating and record those boiler readings on the security report as well as refrigeration readings where it might apply.
Pay close attention to the road conditions, especially during severe weather and notify the Director of Facilities of any icy/slippery conditions, power outages or other hazardous conditions that may need immediate attention.
In emergency situations, contact Police, Fire, or EMS as necessary.
Complete a written log indicating the times when buildings were checked /and secured, noting any essential mechanical reading and document any incidents that occur on campus.
All other duties may be assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma. Security experience
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must successfully complete state-required clearances and training in regard to the prevention and reporting of child abuse. Must have a valid Pennsylvania driver's license with a good driving record. CPR & First Aid a plus.
TRAINING: Security personnel must successfully complete all training proscribed by the Director of Campus Safety, including on-line courses. Security personnel must maintain a valid CPR & 1st aid certification.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:* * Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
REASONING ABILITY:* * Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the Academy community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. Ability to drive between school buildings. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all Academy requirements and policies.
TECHNOLOGY ACCESS: Security personnel must be capable of utilizing mobile communication devices, including a smart phone or a hand held radio. Personnel must have the ability to make and receive telephone calls on such phone device and to take and send photographs and videos. Personnel must have the ability to access and read email on a daily basis and to complete assigned course work on a computer.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physi al demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. It is essential that the employee have the ability to hear and speak in order to communicate effectively with the students, faculty and others. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand or walk. The employee also must be able to tell where a sound is coming from and hear in a noisy environment in order to provide effective guidance. Specific vision abilities are required and these include close vision, distance vision and peripheral vision. The employee must have the physical dexterity to operate equipment. The employee must be mobile, so as to move about the Academy's premises. Occasionally, yet essential to this position, the individual must meet deadlines with severe time constraints, interacting with the public and other workers. Occasionally, the position requires the employee to work irregular or extended hours, meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works indoors and outdoors as the task requires. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.
The noise level in this position varies from quiet to loud.
