Pressley Ridge Behavior Health Specialist (Career Development Center) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Description

A. To assure effective behavior health programming for students, and provide instruction to increase each student’s adaptive social skills and appropriate school decorum, the BHS will:1. design and implement a classroom management system and policies.2. implement components of group process procedures in the classroom including, but not limited to development of a group theme, implementation of planning, evaluation, and problem-solving meetings, and group activities - - social and academic;3. administer assessments and complete necessary documentation related to the assessments;4. help formulate the Positive Behavior Support Plan (PBSP);5. develop, implement, and monitor individual and group interventions in accordance with Interdisciplinary Reviews.6. complete daily progress notes, Interdisciplinary Reviews, attendance information7. facilitate affective/psychoeducational groups and deliver lessons and instruction on skill streaming, Aggression Replacement Training, social skills, etc.8. demonstrate a proficient level of cultural sensitivity;9. actively implement components of all Re-ED values in the school, home, and community settings10. serve as a contributing member responsible for the educational development of students

B. To assure effective academic programming for each student which results in high rates of academic progress and successful program completion, the BHS, will, along with other team members:1. Assists the SET in the design and review (annually) of Individualized Education Plans (I.E.P.s) for each student based on referral information, diagnostic battery results, previous I.E.P.s, and/or Pressley Ridge curriculum guide;2. Assists the SET with designing daily individual lesson plans for each student specifying educational activities to occur in designated time blocks;3. collecting all educational materials (from agency curriculum resources and/or, with Coordinators’ approval, through new purchases) for use in the classroom;4. Supports the SET in facilitating activities for students in all areas specified in I.E.P. through individual or group interactions;5. Supports the SET with correcting academic work in all areas specified on I.E.P.;6. Supports the SET with designing and implementing academic and behavioral interventions.7. integrates experiential education activities into daily programming;8. at the beginning of each school year and subsequently as needed, arranging the physical classroom setting (e.g., chairs, bulletin boards, meeting areas) to maximize the instructional atmosphere;9. maintain frequent informal communication with team members regarding student programming and progress.

C. To assure comprehensive documentation of all student progress, the BHS will, along with other team members:1. track and prepare progress monitoring data;2. complete record-keeping procedures for interdisciplinary reviews, including preparation of information to report to team mates (e.g., daily progress notes).3. follow designated program policy regarding the documentation of critical incidents (such as physical injury or illness, property damage, runaway, student search for drugs or weapons, physical restraint and so on);4. completes daily attendance sheet;5. utilize technology through electronic documentation, electronic communication, and use of the internet to supplement programming and communication.

D. To assure the continuous safety of all students, the BHS will:1. directly supervise assigned students via visual and auditory contact at all times during school day unless otherwise arranged with staff or students;2. follow program-designated procedures for all physical contact with students during physical restraints, student searches and so on;3. follow program-designated procedures for handling student illness and injury, including arranging necessary medical care--(with the approval the Nurse, Coordinator or Program Director)—informing appropriate persons of the situation, and documenting the injury/illness and actions taken;4. according to a designated schedule, supervise students’ arrival and departure to school via buses and cabs;5. assist other staff, as needed, in physical interventions to protect students and staff from injury6. detect and remediate, with the Program Coordinator’s approval, if necessary, potentially dangerous environmental conditions (e.g., broken glass);7. when transporting students, maintain safe driving procedures

E. To assure the continuing development of professional skills, the BHS will:1. participate in all regularly scheduled in-service programs at the school;2. with the approval of the Coordinator, periodically serve on program committees;3. with the approval of the Program/Education Director, periodically attend local, state, or national conferences and workshops.

F. To promote the professional image of Pressley Ridge in local, state, and national communities, the BHS will:1. with the approval of the Program/Education Director, provide in-service/training programs to other programs;2. with the approval of the Program/Educational Director, give formal presentations on program-relevant issues at local, state, or national workshops or conventions.
