Admissions Reader

 

The Admissions Reader will be responsible for reviewing first-year undergraduate applications for the University of Pittsburgh -- Pittsburgh campus. The ideal candidate must have a strong belief in higher education, a strong attention to detail, work efficiently and accurately in a fast-paced environment, and be able to make autonomous decisions. Readers are required to ensure confidentiality and security of the admissions process, files and university materials, and applicants' personal information.

This position is a full time, hybrid remote/on-campus position. Must review and evaluate approximately 350-400 applications per week at peak volume. This position will start September 16, 2024 and will end March 31, 2025. This position is seasonal and requires reappointment annually.

 

Individuals that are not eligible for this position include college admission professionals, high school counselors, independent college counseling consultants, and employees or volunteers for other undergraduate institutions. Candidates should not be immediate family members of a current high school junior or senior.

Must be organized and detail oriented, must be able to work under pressure and manage a high volume of files. Quality and quantity are measured by established guidelines. Responsible for knowing and utilizing a variety of tools including, but not limited to PeopleSoft, Tableau, Perceptive Content, as well as all relevant University policies and procedures. During peak periods, overtime may be required with little or no advance notice.

The candidate will spend a majority of their time reviewing applications for admission. This includes, but is not limited to, reviewing academic records including Common Application, transcripts, letters of recommendation and essays, and standardized test scores. Incumbent will utilize established university guidelines to make autonomous decisions on admission applications for first-year undergraduate students. In consideration of the aforementioned duties, the incumbent must be adept at reading, analyzing, and synthesizing information from academic records. Experience with the Common Application is preferred. Applications are reviewed online. Candidates must have reliable internet access and access to a private, secure location in which to work.
