Colgate Palmolive Company is seeking a Research Scientist / Senior Research Scientist to join our rapidly growing Global Device Research and Innovation team, located in Piscataway, New Jersey. This role focuses on developing innovative clinical methods and product solutions for oral care and personal care devices, from initial concept through to mass manufacturing. The successful candidate will collaborate with a diverse, cross-functional team of experts across Marketing, Engineering, Clinical Sciences, and Biological Sciences disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of initial product concepts, leveraging early-stage scientific and engineering research to meet identified consumer needs and insights.

  • Define technology architecture, integrate external technologies and practices, and execute the development process, including designing, prototyping, validating, and optimizing devices.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to create comprehensive product documentation, such as detailed product specifications, key performance requirements, and supportive test plans/reports.

  • Present technical information, scientific principles, and engineering concepts to management, marketing teams, and R&D colleagues, utilizing computer-generated renderings, rapid prototypes, experimental data and test results.

  • Manage project planning aspects, including budget oversight and cost of goods management.

  • Contribute to intellectual property generation by developing invention records and supporting patent applications.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or equivalent in Optical Engineering, Physics, Bioengineering, or related fields.

  • At least 5 years of working experience in developing optical sensors, imaging components, spectrometers, or microscopes, with integration into consumer or medical / diagnostics devices and applications

  • Strong fundamental knowledge of optical design and theories of spectroscopy

  • Hands-on experience in building, tuning and troubleshooting optical devices and instruments

  • Practical experience applying optical devices and instruments to study biological systems

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in signal/image processing and algorithm development using programming languages such as C/C++, Python, MATLAB, and CUDA.

  • Practical experience in Machine Learning for data analyses and model development

  • Proficient in using optical and electronic test equipment for development and test of prototypes and final products

  • Skills in prototype performances evaluation, analysis of data and results, writing technical documentations

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Self-motivated, thrives in a team environment, and capable of collaborating with professionals from various backgrounds and expertise

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range $115,000.00 - $120,000.00 USD

Pay is determined based on experience, qualifications, and location. Salaried employees may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, profit-sharing, and long-term incentives for Executive-level roles.

Benefits: Salaried employees enjoy a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance, paid parental leave, disability coverage, and participation in the 401(k) retirement plan with company matching contributions subject to eligibility requirements. Additional benefits include a minimum of 15 vacation/PTO days (hourly employees receive a minimum of 120 hours) and 13 paid holidays (vacation days are prorated based on the employee's hire date within the calendar year). Paid sick leave is adjusted based on role and location in accordance with local laws. Detailed information regarding paid sick leave entitlements will be provided to employees upon hiring and may be subject to adjustments based on changes in legislation or company policies.
