Logistics Project Lead

This position is responsible for leading the development of multiple Customer Service & Logistics Funding the Growth Serve and/or Cost to Serve Initiatives, applying Project Management tools, processes, methodologies and Lean Six Sigma Principles. This entails having demonstrated experience and an in-depth understanding of managing projects and the ability to effectively lead cross functional teams on sophisticated initiatives.

This role will work closely with Customer Service & Logistics leaders to understand strategies and goals across functional teams and ensure the appropriate number and type of resources (e.g., funding, people, technology) are assigned to all projects supporting these strategies. It will also periodically engage leadership sponsors as appropriate to secure key decisions, identify risks and issues and provide status updates.

This position will be responsible for developing collaborative partnerships with CP colleagues, suppliers, other manufacturers and customers to assist in achieving their goals, metrics, and projects/initiatives.

Responsibilities:

Project initiation and planning:

  • Partners with key collaborators to ensure transparency of scope elements, deliverables and management expectations

  • Develops project charter & scope documents (updates scope as needed)

  • Ensures project is appropriately funded and calls out potential risks (i.e., project costs across all functions)

  • Ensures team is adequately resourced (i.e., skilled, appropriate functional expertise, availability)

  • Identifies, communicates and plans for critical project risks

Understands and considers impact of adjacent projects while maintaining clarity on current project scope

  • Identifies and secures key decisions, engaging leadership sponsors throughout the process

Managing and communicating project timeliness issues and risks:

  • Manages overall project timeline and integrates all key project activities

  • Defines and maintains project critical path

  • Alerts leadership of long-lead critical path items

  • Issues critical notifications as needed

Coordinating and facilitating team communication/ flow of information and decision making:

  • Schedules and chairs regular team meetings

  • Uses the latest collaboration tools and technologies to facilitate information sharing

  • Ensures takeaways are captured throughout the project and leverages lessons learned from prior initiatives to optimize results

  • Facilitates decision making on key issues

  • Ensures knowledge assets generated for the project are appropriately codified and archived consistent with any legal or regulatory requirements

  • Apply Lean Six Sigma principles to project management.

Providing key project interface to senior management:

  • Partners with functional leadership to ensure that risks and issues are appropriately communicated and decisions made in a timely manner.

  • Conducts periodic project reviews with leadership

  • Anticipates potential global requirements and works with global leadership to bring the project results into alignment with existing global initiatives.

Building project management capability:

  • Collaborate with functional partners to align on standard processes and approaches, updating as needed

  • Participate in the development of formal tools and training, delivering as needed

  • Informally coach team members in application of Project Management tools

  • Seek external standard processes related to Project Management to apply within Colgate

Completing the project and presenting the results/ takeaways / critical metrics:

  • Identifies lessons learned via Continuous Improvement Reviews

  • Works with project team to ensure ongoing organizational change and accurate hand-off to the business. Presents key findings and communicate outstanding uses and risks to key partners.

Projects Examples:

1) Freight cost project for domestic & imports transportation

2) Co-shipping - optimize truck utilization

3) Logistics analytics improvement roadmap

Required qualifications:

  • BA/BS in Business / Logistics / related field

  • 8-10 years of Customer Service / Logistics / Supply Chain experience

  • Functional / Technical knowledge of Logistics: Warehousing and Transportation

  • Strong organizational, project management and coordination skills

  • Sophisticated analytical skills with ability to mine and interpret data

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Experience working directly with retail customers, with a good understanding of manufacturing to shelf processes

  • Excellent verbal, written and listening skills

Preferred qualifications:

  • Well-developed interpersonal and presentation skills

  • Solid systems experience, including SAP and Microsoft Office, SQL highly preferred

  • Experience working on projects using Lean Six Sigma principles

  • Solid understanding of cross functional processes, including finance, customer development, and manufacturing

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range $102,400.00 - $144,000.00 USD

Pay is based on multiple non-discriminatory, individualized factors including but not limited to experience, job-related knowledge and education, skills and office/market location. In addition to base salary, salaried employees are eligible for annual discretionary bonuses, profit-sharing and, for Executive-level (salary grade 16 and above) roles only, long-term incentives in the form of Restricted Stock Units and/or Stock Options.

Subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable benefits plans then in effect, all salaried employees are also eligible for a competitive benefits package which includes:

  • Insurance: Employees (and their eligible dependents) are eligible to participate in Company-sponsored Medical, Dental, Vision, Basic Life Insurance, Accidental Death & Dismemberment and Disability insurance plans.

  • Retirement Plans: Employees are eligible to enroll in Colgate's 401(k) plan, which provides for company matching contributions subject to eligibility requirements

  • Vacation/PTO: Employees receive a minimum of 15 days of vacation/PTO leave annually

  • Paid Holidays: Employees receive a minimum of 13 paid/floating holidays annually

  • Paid Sick Leave: Based on location and consistent with applicable state and local law, employees receive a minimum of 40 hours of paid sick leave on January 1st of each year

  • Paid Parental Leave: Eligible employees may take up to eight weeks of paid parental leave and 12 weeks of unpaid leave (varies for employees with fewer than 12 months of service and is subject to hours worked requirements)
