Amentum Fabrication Technician/BEAR Lead in Pirmasens, Germany

Purpose and Scope:

The Fabrication Technician/BEAR Lead is responsible for leading maintenance activities for BEAR and RADR equipment including receipt, accountability, inspection, maintenance, functional testing of and storage. Lead the BEAR personnel which includes power production, electrical, HVAC, welding, and fabrication activities. Maintains, packs, and inventories prefabricated modular metal soft wall / hard wall structures, and associated equipment. Responsible for the day-to-day BEAR shop operations and communicates with the Site Manager and BEAR Functional Manager to assure work priorities are met. Direct preparation of assets for exercise or actual deployments. Ensures compliance with Performance Work Statement (PWS) and Amentum ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS).

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead BEAR (Fabrication, Power Generator, Welder, HVAC, Electrician, and Carpenter) technicians in the performance of periodic inspection, maintenance, and repair actions on assigned BEAR and RADR assets.

  • Repairs, inspects, fabricates, cleans, operates, maintains, corrosion controls, and reconstitutes BEAR order of Battle (BOB) assets/equipment in accordance with Maintenance Action Sheets, Technical Orders, Manuals, Checklists, Regulations, Maintenance Action Sheets, and Unit Type Code (UTC) Configuration listings.

  • Prepares assets/equipment for air/sea/road haul shipments IAW Technical Orders, Manuals, Checklist, Regulations, Maintenance Action Sheets and UTC Configuration listings.

  • Performs servicing and/or maintenance of in-use assets as required.

  • Repairs, inspects, cleans, operates and maintain contingency plumbing facilities such as Laundry, Kitchen, Latrines and Showers modules.

  • Performs visual inspections on newly received and returned deployed assets.

  • Responds to inquiries concerning storage and status of assigned equipment.

  • Schedules and coordinates with the Work Control all shop work assignment.

  • Instructs and trains personnel in maintenance repair techniques, inspects their work performance, identifies training requirements, and documents training records.

  • Conducts training on quality assurance, safety, Material Safety Data Sheets, security awareness and other subjects in accordance with appropriate plans.

  • Orients new personnel to work crews, planned work assignments, and established work methods.

  • Research asset/equipment discrepancies, identifies them the Bear Functional for coordination with the customer, and formulates plans for repair.

  • Evaluates maintenance schedules and analyzes production goals weekly.

  • Submits Local Purchase or ILS-S supply documents to procure parts, consumables and equipment.

  • Reviews supply documents to verify status of parts.

  • Assists in the erection, construction and operation of BEAR shelter systems and associated equipment to support real world exercises and contingencies.

  • Stocks, maintains, and requisitions parts, tools, and supplies to perform required work on assets.

  • Prepares and inspects assets and equipment for shipment by air, sea and surface transportation for exercises or actual deployments.

  • Responds to enquiries concerning storage and status of assigned equipment.

  • Utilizes testing of diagnostic equipment while troubleshooting hydraulic, electrical, fuel pneumatic, and plumbing systems and components for serviceability.

  • Prepares and completes documentation including work orders, US Air Force supply and forms, updates historical data and coordinates actions required with work orders.

  • Directs maintenance according to schedule to meet monthly goals by following technical orders and manuals.

  • Develops standards for subordinates, implements the precept of quality assurance within the guidelines of the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System Standard (QMS), ensures that all work is completed to quality standards and provides employees with feedback on their progress.

  • Oversees operation, scheduled/unscheduled maintenance, and daily preventative maintenance, including but not limited to, fueling, fluid checks, and overall functionality of power generating equipment

  • Orients new personnel to work crews, plans work assignments and establishes work methods.

  • Conducts on-the-job training for safety, material safety data sheets, security awareness and other subjects.

  • Prepares and updates training records.

  • Performs servicing and maintenance of in-use assets and returns equipment to mission capable.

  • Prepares and submits quality/material deficiency reports and technical order changes as required.

  • Operates material handling equipment as required.

  • Inspects hazardous materials within the assigned work center and coordinates the appropriate office for the disposal of HAZMAT when required.

  • Ensures all tools, personnel protective equipment, facilities, and clothing issued remain safe, secure, and serviceable, reporting any deficiencies.

  • Operates/maintains electric hand/pneumatic power tools (i.e., grinders, sanders, needle guns, drills, saws, and metal shears) and shop-supported fabrication equipment.

  • Ensures that the work area is maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness.

  • Performs TDY within the area of operations as required by the US Air Force tasking.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Background in mechanical/electrical equipment or facilities maintenance required.

  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and lead small teams.

  • General knowledge of electrical, diesel and small gas engine maintenance and repair.

  • Minimum of 18 months of actual BEAR support maintenance experience required.

  • Forklift experience required.

  • Ability to read, understand and interpret all technical data associated with Civil Engineering and BOB assets and related equipment required.

  • Maximo experience preferred.

  • Must be proficient in the use computers and Microsoft Office

  • Must have organizational skills and be able to understand, speak, read, and write English.

  • Must possess a valid home country driver’s license and ability to obtain host nation driver’s license.

  • Must be an EU resident and/or authorized to work in Germany

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Work is performed in a shop environment that is moderately lighted, heated, and ventilated, is exposed to disagreeable fumes and to cuts and bruises from using tools in close placed and hazards of moving vehicles such as forklifts and sweepers in shop area. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, or balance, and taste or smell. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme heat, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud or unsafe conditions, questioning nonstandard operations or environmental factors that may involve unmitigated hazards, and providing feedback to supervisors and managers on all safety issues. Will be required to wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) according to prescribed procedures and as required for task being performed. Physically capable of performing all required duties; capable of lifting/pushing/pulling minimum of 50 lbs.
