GENERAL FUNCTION

The Engineering Technician is a hands-on technical position that provides equipment and process support to the GE, R&D, and Manufacturing teams and is based at Transitions Optical in Pinellas Park, FL. This is a role with responsibilities in maintenance, troubleshooting, and prototype building activities.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the design and implementation of electromechanical systems requested by GE, R&D, and Manufacturing.

  • Troubleshoot existing and new equipment and processes.

  • Quickly and efficiently prototype fixtures, tooling, and simple systems at the request of engineering and R&D.

  • Works closely with Global and Operations engineering.

  • Works with Project Managers and Vendors to support equipment building initiatives and procurement.

  • Works with vendors to procure small tools and equipment from concept to completion. This may include verbal communications, mechanical drawings, etc.

  • Provides regional support (T-PPG in Pennsylvania and NA/LATAM Operations) for equipment maintenance and PMs.

  • Shares relevant and timely information with supervisors and management.

  • Occasional support on off-shifts or weekends as required by business demands.

  • Requires use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in specified areas including appropriate garments which adhere to GMP in clean rooms or other areas.

  • Be a role model for safe behaviors and following safety best practices.

  • Must adhere to all safety requirements and complete all training and testing.

  • Domestic and international travel (approximately 10%).

  • Incumbent is expected to continuously upgrade their skills and knowledge through on-the-job training, project work and/or external training.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be capable of working near or around various chemicals.

  • Minimum of two years of experience working with electromechanical systems and technical processes.

  • Possesses a general knowledge of mechanical and electrical drawings.

  • Good communication & interpersonal skills, and the ability to be open minded & collaborative with others.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems, and escalate problems upwards when necessary.

  • Ability to work from verbal instructions and hand sketches.

  • Experience working with cross-functional teams, team-oriented environment.

  • Knowledge in the safe use of shop equipment, hand tools and operation of electromechanical equipment.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software, i.e., Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.

  • Able to lift 10 pounds occasionally throughout the day, up to 25 pounds infrequently.

  • Requires presence on production floor, shop floor, and other work areas. Frequent standing, walking and reaching, as well as occasional climbing, bending, stooping and twisting are possible.

  • Knowledge of clean room technology and coatings is strongly desired.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with CAD software and PDM systems, preferably SolidWorks and Creo.

  • Experience with robots, PLCs, and machine vision.

  • Familiarity with additive manufacturing technology.

  • Previous experience in a technical role or having a technical background
