What's the job?

The Maintenance Supervisor facilitates maintenance activities by leading a team of mechanics and electricians and is accountable for managing the overall maintenance of the plant.

This position is to help support unplanned delay during off-shift hours and increase uptime. Ensures all safety standards are met, prepares work schedules for mechanics and electricians, plans scheduled maintenance, supervises unscheduled repair activities to ensure smooth plant operations, and leads all aspects of the maintenance department.

This position reports directly to the Maintenance Superintendent with dotted lines to the Quarry/Ballast Superintendent and the Granule Superintendent. -Coordinates multiple line maintenance repairs with shift maintenance and the maintenance planner.

Work Schedule:- -The work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday from 6AM to 3PM with the flexibility to work as needed including some weekends.

Duties/Responsibilities

Provides leadership and technical advice to ensure quality work is produced from a team of skilled maintenance technicians. Responsible for planning, evaluating, organizing, and implementing assigned installation, maintenance, and repair activities, coordinating with other departments to assure minimum downtime for production and maximum safety of employees. Performs root cause analysis as well as implements sustainable countermeasures on losses related to maintenance. Organize and structure planned and unplanned repairs and preventive maintenance items in a manner that will ensure efficient operation of equipment and plant operating systems

  • Directly supervise the hourly skilled maintenance employees in the improvement and maintenance of plant equipment, buildings, machinery, mobile equipment, and utilities

  • Work with Maintenance Planner, plant and department Supervisors to develop PM’s that drive improved reliability and to ensure identified maintenance issues have been corrected

  • Participate in meetings and work with operators, production supervisors and plant engineers at the granule plant to identify future projects needed to improve production, quality and safety and to ensure resources are available when needed

  • Maintain records of plant and individual equipment performance

  • Contact vendors to find cost effective solutions for everyday wear parts and materials

  • Responsible for maintaining SAP system; e.g. create work orders, enter completed work orders, enter parts issued for each work order, tracking of spare parts, etc. Ensure strict use of SAP by technicians

  • Report all EH&S incidents – Injuries/Recordables, Near Misses, First Aid, Environmental and Property/Equipment Damage

  • Participate in Incident & Near Miss Investigations to determine root cause and corrective actions

  • Participate in weekly maintenance, production and safety meetings to provide updates on upcoming maintenance and to hear of any issues related to maintenance department

  • Participate in the development, understanding and review of all position Risk Analysis, JSA’s and SOP’s

  • Lead 5S activities in the department to improve efficiency, functionality, cleanliness and safety

  • Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned

  • (CMMS) Requires a technical diploma or degree in the fields of engineering or manufacturing, including; mechanical, electrical, industrial that provides a thorough knowledge of the skills utilized in manufacturing improvement activities. Equivalent experience will be considered.

  • Ability to lead small to medium sized cross-functional teams under high-pressure environments. Demonstrated high performance history, proven ability to execute and get results.

  • Requires change management, methodical/analytical problem solving and employee leadership skills with the ability to effectively apply those skills in a manufacturing facility in a leadership capacity.

  • Deal calmly and effectively with high stress situations and be sensitive to other’s needs, display a positive demeanor, effectively lead changes for the business, and demonstrate problem solving/analytical skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with all levels of the organization.

  • High level of proficiency with computer systems and programs, especially Microsoft Office applications, e-mail and internet navigation. Must be fluent in SAP or similar (CMMS) Maintenance Management System.
