U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Lock and Dam Equipment Mechanic Supervisor in Pickwick Dam, Tennessee

Summary About the Position: Serves as the Lock and Dam Equipment Mechanic Supervisor at Mid-Tennessee River Area Office Pickwick Lock. Responsible for the operation, maintenance, & repair of the locks, dam, & related facilities at the project. Responsibilities Direct and coordinate the overall operation and maintenance of a Lock and Dam facility. Operation of electrically, electronically, and/or hydraulically controlled lock and dam gates, control valves, and other associated equipment required for passage of traffic through the lock structure and the maintenance of required pool levels. Participate in long term repair and maintenance planning for the project by developing and prioritizing projects needed to insure continued effective operations of the locks and dam. Conduct the full range of supervisory roles including setting performance requirements, making performance appraisals, counseling and awarding employees, and resolving concerns through discussion with employees and union representatives. Conduct safety meetings, develops hazard analysis for each job, instructs employees in safety methods and practices, enforces safety regulations, and investigates accidents and prepares accident reports. Provide technical advice needed to determine how work can be accomplished efficiently and economically within operational and fiscal requirements. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Lock and Dam Equipment Mechanic Supervisor without more than normal supervision. Experience operating, inspecting, dissembling, and troubleshooting lock and dam equipment and machinery. I can repair lock valves and gates, perform welding operations, troubleshoot and repair electric, gasoline, and diesel motors of mobile-railed service bridge cranes, truck cranes, pumps, generators, compressors, and tractors. -Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Ability To Lead or Supervise Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Knowledge of Materials Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Trouble Shooting Physical Efforts: Work requires frequent standing, stooping, stretching, climbing and crouching. Routinely lifts and carries items weighing up to 45 lbs. or greater. Uses coordination of eyes, hands, legs and body in installing, repairing, or testing equipment in confined spaces such as manholes, enclosed switchgear structures, or on overhead structures; climbs ladders and poles. Machinery on high lift structures is large and requires the skills of a heavy construction mechanic to effect repair or replacement. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside during the day and at night, as required by emergencies, on high structures over water that is frequently turbulent, in the proximity of moving machinery and high-tension electrical wires, and on scaffolds or slings. Occasionally, works behind bulkhead or in tunnels below water level. Is subject to falls, drowning, electrical shocks, injury and discomfort, exposure to moving equipment, machinery, loud noises, inclement weather, and dangerous icy conditions. Uses safety equipment such as life vest, protective hearing devices, hard hat, hard-toe shoes, respirators, and protective clothing.
