This position is moving to OPG Corporate Headquarters:In Summer 2025, OPG will officially welcome employees to our new Corporate Headquarters located at 1908 Colonel Sam Drive, Oshawa, Ontario. This new space will enable teamwork, collaboration and innovation that will help us to achieve our mission to electrify life in one generation . This position will be temporarily based in Pickering, ON until the move to Headquarters in the Summer of 2025.

JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Template Specialist.

Reporting to the Section Head of Governance & Services, this position is responsible for the design, development, implementation and maintenance of OPG's interactive and advanced-level Microsoft templates and forms, web-based forms, and databases. This role includes end-to-end support of these tools, including collaborating/supporting end-users and system administration.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • In partnership with internal clients, work together to understand their business and system needs, gather requirements, and suggest appropriate solution options.

  • Adopt, build, modify, deploy, debug and maintain systems and applications.

  • Prepare and monitor schedules to ensure milestone dates are met.

  • Provide training and ongoing user support functions associated with use of systems and applications created and managed by Information Management & Innovation group.

  • Develop job aids (as required)

  • Resolve issues with clients & end users tactfully. Keep Line Manager informed on work program and where unusual problems or situations exist.

  • Monitor and maintain mailbox, respond to client requests and reports of template, application or system issues

  • Work with OPG’s IT Service Provider when foundational (hardware or software) issues arise.

  • Share knowledge with peers and keep up to date on industry developments in computer software and cloud technology deemed useful to the Department

  • Be accountable for the health, safety and well-being of self and others, in accordance with technical/operating procedures and standards, and includes the development of technical/operating solutions to problems

EDUCATION

  • Grade 12 or equivalent; and

  • Completion of a 2 year College-Level Education in relevant field (Computer Science, Computer Programming, IT Systems or other related fields of study)

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills to document and present business needs

  • Demonstrated initiative and experience in solving complex and unique problems, analytical and organization skills

  • Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills. Focus on peer collaboration and teamwork to share knowledge and solve problems.

  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access & Outlook)

  • Experience with DevOps (Azure preferred)

  • Experience using programming languages, software, tools and applications, such as:

  • Visual Studio

  • Visual Basic

  • XML

  • JavaScript

  • react

  • NodeJS

  • AngularJS

  • HTML5

  • C, C++, C#

  • Source Control: Git

  • Experience in a unionized environment would be an asset
