Unleash Your Potential as a Special Education Teacher

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of special education students from kindergarten through grade 12? We’re seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team under the guidance of the Special Education Program Administrator. This role is perfect for those who are committed to team collaboration in planning and implementing student programs, including special instruction, tutorial assistance, and consultation with general education staff.

Key Responsibilities:

Collaborate with parents and team members to prepare individualized education plans

Support students with a wide range of learning, mental, emotional, and physical disabilities

Design both individual and small group instruction that aligns with the general education curriculum

Work with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and other professionals to develop educational plans that promote students’ educational, physical, and social development

Prepare materials and classrooms for engaging class activities

Coordinate the implementation of individualized education programs (IEP) with general education staff

Monitor student progress and participate in the review and revision of the student’s IEP as needed

Maintain accurate student records

Mentor and support teaching assistants who provide support to students with disabilities

Assist students in preparing for grade transitions and developing life skills

Assess students’ skills and educational needs and track their performance

Discuss students’ progress with their other teachers

Maintain positive relationships with students and their parents through effective communication

Adhere to School District policies and procedures

Minimum Requirements:

Preferred Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university

Valid state teaching certificate as required by state, contract/district regulations

At least one year of experience in a teaching environment preferred

Preferred State Teacher Certification Types: Standard Elementary Teaching, Standard Secondary Teaching, Standard Special Teaching

Preferred Endorsement: Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1)

Compliance with all relevant professional standards of practice

Participation and completion of Amergis’ Competency program when applicable

Current CPR certification if applicable

TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable

Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)

Must meet all federal, state and local requirements

Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site

Understanding of patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements

Strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language required

Computer proficiency required

Must be at least 18 years of age
