American Airlines’ IT team is looking for an innovative, energetic, team-oriented Engineer/Senior Engineer. This individual is an integral member of the technical staff for the Direct Connect Application. The Engineer/Senior Engineer must interact with internal and contract development resources, AA business organizations and AA IT and vendor organizations to develop and deliver functionality ensuring the quality of the project's deliverables and its successful completion. Candidate will be responsible for analyzing and developing enhancements to American Airlines’ IT applications. This position supports the development of new and existing application functionality and configurations with the objective of optimizing the use of given functionality. Further, the individual performs revisions, repairs, and expansions of existing programs to increase operating efficiency.

What you'll do

  • Collaborate with squad lead, product management, business analysts, developers, testers and architectural teams to define strategy and requirements

  • Develops and drives high-level strategic initiatives and secures commitment from external and internal teams for new initiatives

  • Drives consensus on technical approach, sets timelines, and leads cross-functional application teams from design through delivery

  • Applies software engineering best industry practices to web applications and services

  • Actively participates in requirements analysis, study of functional requirements, solution delivery, incident response and root-cause analyses as needed

  • Troubleshoots and debugs complex issues and identifies and implements solutions

  • Analyzes new and existing NDC schemas to identify implementation gaps as well as opportunities for product evolution

  • Partner with IATA for schema standardization and subsequently works with technology vendor for implementation

  • Become the subject matter expert for Direct Connect/Distribution application’s capabilities and architecture

  • Provides in a rotating on-call production support, as required

All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Bachelor's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training

  • 3+ years of progressive broad-based information systems and business experience

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Airline industry experience

  • Proficient in at least one of the technologies in one of the categories: Java, JEE, Spring, ORM/Hibernate/Spring Data JPA, SQL/NoSQL

  • Knowledge of systems integration practices and understanding of Service Oriented Architecture principles, practices, and related technologies, such as XML, SOAP, REST and JSON)

  • 2+ years knowledge or experience in Cloud migration

  • 2+ years Agile and DevOps experience

  • 2+ years Product Management experience familiarity with PM tools such as Rally

Skills, Licenses & Certifications

  • Java/C++/Python (3+ years)

  • SoapUI /Ready API (2+ years)

  • XML schemas (3+ years)

  • Groovy scripting (basic knowledge) or other Test Automation technologies

  • Experience with versioning/source control systems such as Git/Github,TFS or Subversion
