This role within American Express Technology (AET) will report into the NGDM Engineering Director.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with business, product, engineering and data science teams to unlock the power of leveraging data across Amex.

  • Partner with development teams in the data design of complex solutions and ensure that they are in alignment with the data architecture principles, standards, strategies, and target states.

  • Drive data vision, strategy, and execution that meets the technology and business' needs including creating a highly scalable Core Data Element architecture comprising of operational and product data to build a Data fabric foundation for the enterprise.

  • Enforcing data architecture standards, procedures and policies to ensure consistency across different program and project implementations.

  • Adopting industry leading technologies to support best-in-class business capabilities for high performance computing and data storage solutions

  • Be a thought leader around all things Data, reviewing current and future needs

  • Core job function is to design highly performing data containers with minimal risk adjusted total ownership cost over system lifetime by:

  • Conducting session to understand business requirements and concept and defining logical organization of data

  • Selecting appropriate physical environment and technical framework based on requirements and company standards.

  • Model physical organization of data to cover all requirements and performance SLAs

  • Extend, optimize and tune data structures, load and access methods on on-going basis to ensure reduced cost and increased longevity of a data solution.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Statistics, Math or related STEM fields. Advanced degree preferred.

  • 8 years of experience of technology platform implementation in a technical and analytical role

  • 6 years of Data Architecture experience in a large complex data ecosystem, domain expertise with complex high-tech environments.

  • 6 years of building both traditional and cloud native architectures and big data platforms in support of digital transformation.

  • 6 years of experience in Industry 4.0 initiatives and/or other aspects of corporate data management; e.g. Data Governance, Data Security, AI/ML, Data DevOps.

  • 6 years of experience in designing solutions for multiple large data warehouses with a good understanding of cluster and parallel architecture as well as high-scale or distributed RDBMS and/or knowledge on NoSQL platforms (e.g. PostgreSQL, BigQuery, DynamoDB, MongoDB, Cassandra, Couchbase, etc.).

  • Hands-on experience with industry leading data management tools that support the data lifecycle, and capable of setting and driving long term data architecture roadmaps in alignment with corporate strategic objectives.

  • Have cursory knowledge of enterprise architecture to be able to work with Applications, Infrastructure and Security architect(s) to develop comprehensive solutions

  • Experience with any of the following Data Modeling tools (or similar tools):

  • ER/Studio

  • Erwin Data Modeler

  • Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler

  • PowerDesigner

  • Experience and knowledge with data security and privacy concerns

  • Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment

  • Strong analytical skills and algorithmic problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

Salary Range: $110,000.00 to $190,000.00 annually bonus benefits
