Intermountain Health Senior Data Analyst - Research Analytics in Phoenix, Arizona

Job Description:

The Research Data Analytics team works closely with world-class researchers at Intermountain Health, one of the nation’s leading health systems. This Senior level Technical Data Analyst will support Cardiovascular Research at Intermountain by translating research aims into data requirements and deliverables. They will assemble impeccable datasets to help answer high-stakes medical research questions. Success in this position requires deep technical expertise, the ability to acquire clinical domain knowledge, and excellent communication with technical and non-technical colleagues.

Technical Expertise : Proficiency with writing SQL to query relational databases is required, and fluency with a programmatic data language (e.g., Python, R) is highly desired. The analyst will query, clean, and combine data from multiple EMRs and several data platforms, including Oracle, Databricks, application-level databases (e.g., Syngo Dynamics), and occasionally REST APIs. The successful applicant will demonstrate their ability to produce quality data products while working flexibly across tools, coding languages, and data environments.

Domain Knowledge : This analyst will have the opportunity to develop expert domain knowledge related to Cardiology. Prior knowledge of healthcare systems and/or Cardiovascular processes is valued highly. Research data analysts gather clinical requirements and interpret them as technical parameters to develop complex datasets with appropriate constraints and high quality. The Senior level analyst will occasionally investigate the details of data generating processes—including interviewing or shadowing frontline caregivers—to understand data definitions, quality, and integrity.

Communication and project management : Data analysts supporting Cardiovascular Research interview research investigators to collect and clarify requirements. In partnership with leadership and customers, the Senior data analyst will facilitate meetings with stakeholders to provide updates, set project priorities, and establish deliverable timelines. They will work iteratively to refine data products to a high standard. They will be a key member of an Agile Delivery Team comprised of professionals working together to achieve Intermountain strategic goals related to research. Within a small team, they may mentor junior caregivers, providing technical guidance and adherence to best practices.

In brief, the Senior level Technical Data Analyst will contribute to groundbreaking medical research as a valued member of a multi-disciplinary team, advancing scientific knowledge in the cardiovascular domain. They will have opportunities to advance their professional skills though structured and personal learning opportunities. They will mentor team members. They will ensure customer priorities are understood, resourced, and executed, identifying opportunities for intra/inter team collaboration to enhance product work.

Minimum Qualifications

Must meet one of the following:

Bachelor's degree in an analytics related field such as statistics, mathematics, information systems, computer science, finance, business management, or economics with four years of relevant work experience in a role performing data analysis.

Or

Bachelor’s degree in another area of study with six years of relevant work experience in a role performing data analysis.

Experience without a related degree will be considered if skill set and experience are robust.

Plus:

Demonstration of these skills:

Advanced SQL ability, knowledge of database design, data modeling and standardized data structures

Significant Experience in creating visually appealing, content rich and consumer centric reports and dashboards (i.e. Cognos, Tableau)

Proficiency in using word processing, spreadsheet, internet, e-mail, and scheduling applications

Highly effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

Subject matter expertise in healthcare or related data (Clinical Programs, Clinical Services, Compliance, Quality, Revenue Cycle, Strategic Planning, Population Health, etc.).

Lifelong learner with a creative, collaborative approach.

Temperament to thrive in scaled agile teams (SAFe®) or similar product management practice

Preferred Qualifications

Competence in Python/R, data engineering experience.
