Combo Welder

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and skilled combo welder to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for interpreting project plans, blueprints, and welding symbols to perform tasks accurately. This role requires proficiency in various welding techniques and materials, and the ability to perform physically demanding tasks in varying conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret project plans, blueprints, weld symbols, and other written instructions and diagrams to perform tasks accurately.

  • Follow project specifications, Quality Control program documents, and understand Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).

  • Perform GTAW, SMAW, FACW, GMAW, and other mixed types of welds based on project needs.

  • Work with pipe materials including stainless steel, various types of chrome, and carbon pipe.

  • Select proper fillers for welding tasks based on welding procedure specifications.

  • Prepare welding surfaces per welding procedure to achieve proper joint detail.

  • Assist pipe fitters with pulling measurements, prepping work areas, and other necessary tasks to complete the job.

  • Work up to a 12-hour shift performing hard physical labor in varying temperatures and outdoor conditions.

  • Maintain physical strength and stamina; use arms, hands, and legs fully; push, pull, lift, and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds; stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb to perform job tasks.

  • Perform tasks repetitively and continuously for several-hour intervals.

Essential Skills

  • Considerable experience welding GMAW (MIG), GTAW (TIG), and FCAW.

  • Ability to pass a vertical welding test.

  • Proficiency in interpreting blueprints and welding symbols.

  • Experience with various welding techniques including Flux Core, MIG, TIG, and Sub-Arc.

  • Proficiency in pipe welding with materials such as carbon steel and stainless steel.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Pipe welding certification is highly desirable.

  • 1+ year of combo pipe welding experience (3G vertical, 4G vertical tests).

  • Ability to pass the Unlimited 6G pipe test.

  • Pipe-fitting experience is preferred.

  • Purge welding experience is a plus.

Work Environment

The work environment includes a shop location at 406 East Pioneer Street, Phoenix, Arizona, with the option to move to a field role if desired. During the initial ramp-up period, the work schedule is a swing shift from Monday to Saturday, 3 PM to 1 AM, with 40-60 work weeks. After 4 months, employees can qualify for a shift differential for continuing on the swing shift or move to the first shift likely around Christmas time.
