Location:

Duration: 2years Contract

Timing: 8am-5pm

Pay Rate: \$33/hr on W2

Start Date: ASAP

Position Description

This paralegal position is in the Licensing Investigations Department and reports to the Licensing Investigations Manager. This position is responsible for gathering evidence required to conduct investigations of allegations of misconduct, including sensitive issues such as substance abuse and sexual misconduct. Duties include applying careful analysis and comprehension of the evidence (legal documents, public records, research) and compiling the information into a comprehensive written report. This position may also be required to present the completed cases before the Arizona Medical Board, and testify before the Office of Administrative Hearings. This position requires prioritizing, organizing and conducting investigations. The successful candidate should also understand how to interpret statutes and rules. This position will handle calls to/from consumers or businesses as assigned by the Department Manager. This position requires excellent communication and customer service skills; the ability to prioritize caseload, be a self-starter and type 60 wpm with accuracy.

Skills Required

Knowledge of legal research methods and resources, and the ability to conduct legal research using library materials.

*Knowledge of rules of citation, statutes, and the Administrative Code.

*Knowledge of the jurisdictions and functions of local, state and federal courts and related government agencies.

*Knowledge of civil litigation procedures.

*Skilled in legal research and in the communication of facts and legal theories.

*Skilled in presenting cases in a hearing or trial setting.

*Advanced and effective skills in both oral and written communications.

*Ability to work independently or in a group setting.

*Ability to be a self-starter with minimal supervision.

*Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

*Ability to work with the public and to grasp points being made by others, whether by consumers, businesses, case attorneys, the judge\'s ruling, or opposing counsel\'s argument, oral or written.

*Ability to recognize legal issues presented by specific factual situations, this includes the ability to extract information from legal documents and records.

*Ability to use computerized word processing programs.

*Ability to organize large numbers of documents for ready availability to the attorney and others.

*Ability to produce complete, accurate and factual research based upon evidence.

*Ability to prepare complex memoranda and correspondence.

*Ability to understand complex legal issues and cases and to write about them clearly and accurately and in a manner that is easily understood by the public.

Skills Preferred

Experience Required

Selective Preference(s): Four years full-time employment as a paralegal; or three years full-time employment with the State of Arizona as a Project Specialist; or any equivalent paralegal or legal education and/or experience.

Education Required

Paralegal Certificate or Associates of Arts or better

Education Preferred
