Responsibilities

The Department of Psychiatry and Psychology at Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, AZ is seeking a part-time (0.5 FTE) Doctoral Level Clinical Psychologist with interest/expertise in the cognitive behavioral treatment of chronic pain. The clinical duties will include empirically supported evaluations and individual and group-based treatment interventions in chronic pain. The successful candidate will be a member of the division of Clinical Health Psychology working exclusively in the Pain Rehabilitation Center in Phoenix, AZ based within the Department of Anesthesiology, Division of Pain Medicine. The Pain Rehabilitation Center (PRC) is a 3-week intensive, interdisciplinary, comprehensive, functional restoration program to treat chronic and debilitating intractable symptoms. Candidates will work in close collaboration with the MCA PRC Clinical Director, Dr. Cynthia Townsend, PhD, to maintain and grow PRC capabilities, achieve CARF accreditation, and instruct medical school and resident level trainees. The Pain Rehabilitation Center has close collaboration with colleagues in the Departments of Pain Medicine, Neurology, Rheumatology, PMR, Psychiatry, Neurosurgery and Gastroenterology. Clinical and research experience in pain populations and behavioral pain intervention and/or rehabilitation programs is highly desirable.

The successful candidate would join the Division of Clinical Health Psychology with 6 clinical health psychologists (specializing in chronic pain, transplant, bariatric surgery, gastroenterology, and oncology), 3 LCSW therapists and 1 masters-level addiction counselor as well as a department with 8 psychiatrists and 5 neuropsychologists. Within the Pain Rehabilitation Center, the pain psychologist would work collaboratively in clinical practice with the interdisciplinary team including pain psychologist, pain physician and advanced practice providers, pain nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and PRC administrative team. We are a highly collaborative professional group, who work with specialized multi-disciplinary care teams throughout the hospital, clinic, and medical school. We are eager to have an additional clinical health psychologist to help grow our department, division and pain program.

An academic appointment with the Mayo Clinic Alix College of Medicine will be appointed based on merit. Opportunities for growth in educational, research and administrative areas, along with leadership opportunities, may be available for the interested candidate as the position matures.

Qualifications

Candidates should hold a doctoral degree from a Psychology graduate program accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) or Canadian Psychological Association (CPA). Completion of an APA/CPA accredited internship is required. Postdoctoral training in health psychology with emphasis on chronic pain conditions is desirable and must meet requirements for certification by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP) in a related Specialty (e.g., Clinical Health, Clinical, Rehabilitation, Behavioral & Cognitive). The successful candidate will be eligible for licensure in Arizona and will either have or obtain ABPP certification within 3 years of starting this position. Additionally, the candidate is expected to be eligible to practice telepsychology under PSYPACT within the first year of hire. Preferred qualifications include 3-5 years of post-doctoral clinical experience in chronic pain management.
