Job Title: IT Network Engineer

Overview: As an IT Network Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the network infrastructure of an organization. Your role involves ensuring the smooth operation of the network, troubleshooting network issues, and implementing security measures to protect data and systems. You will collaborate with other IT professionals to support the organization's technology needs and contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of its IT systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Network Design and Implementation:

  • Design, configure, and deploy network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and other networking devices.

  • Design and deploy regional LANs, WANs, and wireless networks, including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless APs and other hardware while providing protection from disaster through redundancy and recovery procedures while working both independently and on a team.

  • Develop network architecture and topology to meet organizational requirements, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.

  • Install and configure network hardware and software components according to best practices and industry standards.

  • Network Security:

  • Implement and maintain network security measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, VPNs, and access controls.

  • Monitor network traffic for security breaches and vulnerabilities, and take appropriate action to mitigate risks.

  • Conduct regular security audits and assessments to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.

  • Configure, manage, and secure crucial data center infrastructure: surveillance, physical security, storage, power, networking, and communications infrastructure.

  • Network Maintenance and Troubleshooting:

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as software upgrades, patches, and backups, to ensure the integrity and availability of the network.

  • Practice network asset management using CMDB, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.

  • Troubleshoot network issues, identify root causes, and implement solutions in a timely manner to minimize downtime and disruptions.

  • Monitor network performance and utilization, and optimize network configurations to improve efficiency and reliability.

  • Monitor and periodically test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports.

  • Continually assess the current state of the network against industry best practices and provide recommendations to improve throughput and reduce failure through the use of redundancy and process.

  • Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate documentation of network configurations, procedures, and policies to facilitate knowledge sharing and troubleshooting. Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and processes for network administration, utilization, and disaster recovery to include continual improvement.

  • Generate reports on network performance, security incidents, and compliance status for management and stakeholders.

  • Collaboration and Support:

  • Collaborate with other IT teams, such as systems administrators, software developers, and security specialists, to integrate network infrastructure with other IT systems and applications.

  • Provide technical support and assistance to end-users and IT staff, responding to inquiries, resolving issues, and providing guidance on network-related matters.

  • Server Maintenance and Upkeep:

  • Perform regular maintenance tasks on servers, including updates, patches, and firmware upgrades, to ensure optimal performance and security.

  • Monitor server health and performance metrics, proactively identifying and addressing potential issues before they escalate.

  • Manage server backups and disaster recovery plans, ensuring data integrity and availability in the event of system failures or disasters.

  • Implement and enforce server security measures, such as access controls, encryption, and antivirus software, to protect against unauthorized access and data breaches.

  • Collaborate with system administrators and other IT teams to coordinate server-related activities and ensure alignment with organizational goals and requirements.

    Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

  • 7+ years in enterprise network design and implementation, firewall/switch technologies, QoS design and implementation.

  • Professional certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), CompTIA Network+, or equivalent.

  • Strong knowledge of networking concepts, protocols, and technologies (TCP/IP, VLANs, VPNs, routing protocols, etc.).

  • Proven experience and success with LAN, WAN, WLAN, and WWAN design and implementation.

  • Proven experience with network capacity planning, network security principles, and general network management best practices.

  • Hands-on experience with network equipment from vendors such as Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto Networks, etc.

  • Proficiency in network monitoring and troubleshooting tools (Wireshark, SNMP, etc.).

  • Support experience with sniffers, network analyzers, line toners, and network statistics and reporting tools.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Able to travel/drive to multiple locations if necessary.

  • Experience using network protocol analyzers and sniffers including WireShark and Fluke tools. Experience deciphering packet captures.

  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of IEEE 802.11 wireless standards and Aruba wireless controllers.

  • Experience supporting VoIP and ISP services support systems for network management including Voice technologies utilizing IP switching and routing architectures.

  • Experience working with VLAN, VRF, HSRP, Port Security, Traffic Shaping, Priority Queuing, and Class of Service (CoS).

    • Demonstrated knowledge of different cabling types including multimode fiber, single-mode fiber, LC versus SC, 10/100/1000BaseX, Cat5, Cat5e, Cat6, and RJ45.
  • Hands-on experience with network security, encryption, threat modeling, discovery, vulnerability, and penetration testing.

  • Proficiency in computer forensics and digital investigation skills.

    Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with cloud networking technologies and services (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).

  • Familiarity with software-defined networking (SDN) and network virtualization technologies.

  • Experience implementing and managing network security solutions (firewalls, IDS/IPS, SIEM, etc.).

  • Knowledge of scripting and automation tools (Python, Ansible, etc.) for network administration tasks.

    Wage:

    $80K-$95K per year DOE
