Summary

Enterprise Monitoring Engineer | Site Reliability Engineer

As an Enterprise Monitoring Engineer | Site Reliability Engineer you will play a crucial role in maintaining, installing, and configuring cutting-edge infrastructure technologies. Your expertise will be instrumental in ensuring the seamless operation of our IT environment, with a focus on proactive monitoring and automation.

What your day would be like:

  • Infrastructure Maintenance & Configuration: Oversee the installation, maintenance, and configuration of both current and next-generation infrastructure technologies, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.

  • Technologies: Dynatrace, What's up Gold monitoring tool administration and configuration.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with technology teams across the enterprise— including application, database, server, storage, network, and security teams— to develop and implement effective monitoring solutions that address the unique needs of each area.

  • Proactive Monitoring & Automation: Design and improve alerting systems with a focus on proactive issue detection and self-healing capabilities, reducing downtime and enhancing system resilience.

  • Mentorship & Collaboration: Share your knowledge and experience with other platform and product engineers, mentoring them to deliver high-value solutions across the organization.

  • Custom Development: Create and maintain custom code that supports the enterprise's monitoring needs, ensuring it is both testable and sustainable over time.

  • Strategic Partnership: Collaborate with stakeholders to translate product goals into prioritized platform requirements, ensuring alignment with business objectives.

  • Innovative Problem-Solving: Develop tools and services that transform complex challenges into turnkey solutions, enabling efficient operations in a sophisticated and evolving IT environment.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all operations and developments comply with strict regulatory procedures, maintaining the highest standards of security and governance.

  • On-Call Responsibility: Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to provide critical support and address issues as they arise, ensuring the stability of the IT infrastructure.

Minimum Requirements

Enterprise Monitoring Engineer II

  • Bachelors degree in Information Technology or related field

  • AND two (2) year of prior relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.

  • Requires working technical knowledge gained through experience within a job area or system

    Enterprise Monitoring Engineer III

  • Bachelors' degree in Information Technology or related field

  • AND five (5) year of prior relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.

  • Requires strong technical knowledge within a job area or system and basic knowledge across related technical areas.

  • Position is looking for people with experience with at least some of these tools or similar products and a passion for learning:

  • Experience with protocols such as: SNMP, SSH, WMI

    Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications

  • Knowledge of all infrastructure technologies (compute, storage, networking, physical infrastructure, software, commercial off the shelf (COTS) and open source packages and solutions, virtual and cloud including IaaS, PaaS and SaaS); infrastructure management tools and monitoring tools; solution sizing for hardware/software platforms; industry standard security requirements and designs.

  • Troubleshooting; advanced design, maintenance and repair of servers; applying creative solutions to business problems to ensure business needs are most effectively met; advanced information system configuration management

  • Ability to developing and write technical documentation; evaluate and test emerging technologies.

  • Experience with the following: DevOps tools like Terraform, Jenkins or Ansible; working in an agile environment; Python or other comparable skills.

Major Accountabilities

1) Under general direction, responsible for the maintenance of installed infrastructure technologies as well as the installation and configuration of these technologies within specific area

2) Participates in business requirements meetings

3) Partners with technical architects to translate the architectural designs into operations

4) Develops plans to manage the frequency of support package/patch application

5) Administers equipment, hardware, and software upgrades

6) Provides higher level support to help desk staff

7) Completes and manages accurate infrastructure- related documentation in accordance with company security standards

8) Maintains and manages systems infrastructure and network appliance operations

9) Supports multiple systems or applications of moderate to high complexity (e.g., size, technology, systems feeds)

10) Provides advice to infrastructure engineers with less experience or to a small team

11) May manage projects at this level, requiring responsibility for the delegation of work and the review of others' work products and engineering projects

Flex Role:

This position is not required to be performed at a specific APS facility as long as adequate technology and a solid ergonomic set up are present. Pending agreement with leadership, employees hired into this role will be able to choose where they prefer to perform their work. Employees will have two options to choose from:

  • APS office based: The employee prefers to work most of the time from an APS facility.

  • Home based: The employee prefers to work most of the time from his/her home.

*Employees in Flex roles are required to reside in Arizona (or NM for Four Corners-based employees). Role types are subject to change based on business need.
