About the Qualifications
As anElectronics Communications Engineer (https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/capaz/classspecs/735871?keywords=Engineer&page=3&pagetype=classSpecifications) , you would maintain modern electronic communications technology, including digital microwave, digital trunked mobile radio systems, fiber optic networks and security video surveillance systems. Assists Sr. Communications Engineers in the design and implementation of new communications technologies, and in developing and conducting performance tests to ensure system designs and equipment requirements are satisfied. Develops and updates preventive maintenance procedures based on manufacturers' recommendations and repair trends. Performs corrective and routine preventive maintenance on CAP electronic and communications systems.
Some of the specific duties include:
Maintains and tests digital communications systems and related equipment. Installs equipment and cabling per EIA/TIA standards. Uses electronic test equipment, such as spectrum analyzers, frequency counters, RF power meters, OTDR's (Optical Time Domain Reflectometers), oscilloscopes and multimeters, along with a variety of other complex specialized test equipment to troubleshoot, develop, and execute test plans.
Applies personal computer to interface with electronic equipment for maintenance and analysis. Maintains system-specific applications necessary to optimize the communication systems. Assists Sr. Communications Engineers to develop and maintain preventive maintenance procedures for Microwave, Mobile Radio, security and fiber optic systems.
Uses wiring diagrams, schematics, service manuals and standard operating practices as needed to accomplish work. Assists Engineering Services in maintaining as-builts for the CAP communications systems.
Performs equipment deficiency analyses, writes reports and recommends solutions to the Communications Supervisor and Sr. Communications Engineers. Revises written documentation to keep current all changes to equipment or circuit configuration.
About the Qualifications
Must possess a broad working knowledge of network communications including five (5) years of recent experience as a communications technician working in the communications network/electronics field. Associate's degree (or higher) in Electronics Technology or a closely related technical field; OR a high school diploma or equivalent with eight (8) years of applicable work experience. Intermediate or advanced skill level in MS Word and MS Excel. Ability to work with a variety of complex programs and databases. Prior experience reading and interpreting technical design and installation drawings.
Required Certifications or Licenses: Must have a valid driver's license and maintain a good driving record.
Note: Must successfully obtain an FCC General Radio Operator's license within six months of hire date.
This is a safety-sensitive position and requires physical testing (including tower climbing physical testing).
Preference given to candidates who have experience with Internet Protocol-based point to point wireless backhaul networks. Proficient in the use of Visio (or similar design/drawing software) to create drawings necessary for the design, as built, and the installation of communications systems and those who have an FCC General Radio Operator's license.
