Summary
Under general supervision performs skilled, safe and productive work at the journeyman’s level in carpentry, concrete placement & installation, masonry, substation construction, trenching and installation of conduit duct systems and other similar civil construction and maintenance of the electrical transmission, and distribution systems common to electrical utilities. Demonstrates skill and knowledge in the execution of plans and sketches or other written or oral directives, while accomplishing the work through the efficient use of manpower and other valuable resources.

What You'll Do
Responsible for the safety of others working under their direction. This includes holding pre-job tail boards to discuss the plan & hazards of the work.
Plans & lays out work as assigned, determining the necessary manpower, tools, equipment, and materials to accomplish the job.
Directs the jobsite activities to maintain proper utilization of people, tools, equipment and materials.
Performs carpentry to build forms for concrete placement used in underground structures, substations, duct systems and other utilities common to electrical utilities.
Demonstrates proficiency in the use of hand tools, power tools and other equipment necessary for construction and maintenance with lumber, plywood, concrete, adhesives, mastics, steel reinforcement, fiberglass, metal, fencing, masonry items, various types of pipe, conduit and other materials required in construction and maintenance as assigned.
Utilizes materials listed above to construct and maintain slabs, headwalls, foundations, piers, structures, fencing, pipelines, open channels and other work common to an electrical utility.
Proficiency in the knowledge, capabilities, and uses of heavy equipment in order to operate its use on the jobsite.
Utilizes knowledge of blueprints, sketches, written and verbal orders to accomplish assigned work.
Trains and/or instructs apprentices, trades helpers, laborers and other crew members in the safe and proper use of tools, equipment and materials to assure the work is accomplished in a safe and cost effective manner.
Performs plumbing and pipe fitting for repairs and maintenance.
Keeps written records for timekeeping, tools, equipment, materials, job plans, schedules and other reports.
Other duties as assigned.
Employee must work safely and efficiently in the performance of their job duties. Must maintain effective working relationships with other employees, customers and the public. Must have the ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, and have the ability to accurately and legibly complete applicable paper work. May be required to work a reasonable amount of overtime.
What It Takes To Succeed
Must have leadership qualities. Must maintain working relationship with crewmen and supervision while completing assigned work in a competent manner. Good physical condition, dependable and willing to work long hours. Effective in planning, organizing and problem solving. Ability to perceive and analyze hazardous situations. Possesses good written and oral communication skills to understand and direct others. Must be able to operate a mobile radio. Civil construction and maintenance activities normally encompass the following: Lifting, standing, walking, directs heavy equipment (excavators, cranes, trucks, etc.), uses power tools (air hammers, augers, whackers, saws, pumps, mixers, etc.), hand tools (hammers, saws, shovels, etc.) and various materials required for specific jobs.
Experience
3 years of experience as a C&M apprentice or equivalent
Education
Completion of an appropriate Apprenticeship program or equivalent.
Testing and Certifications
Must possess a valid Class 'A' Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
