Class A Driver Job Description

SUMMARY:

Drives truck over established route to deliver or render services, following all company policies and procedures to deliver such items as paper/packaging products, graphic arts and miscellaneous graphic supplies to customers home or place of business. Collects money from customers and maintains accurate records.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Pays particular attention to safety and the prevention of accidents, beginning by stretching at the start of every shift.
• Puts delivery orders together ensuring complete accuracy, wraps pallets, loads truck and secures load where necessary utilizing Load Bars and/or Load Straps. Doors are closed and secured while the vehicle is being operated.
• Drives truck in a safe and courteous manner while following all local and state operating laws.
• Unloads truck and places stock where or as near to customers requests without stocking their shelves, utilizing Power Jack, Hand Truck or by Hand where necessary.
• Checks stock to invoice with customers and obtains customers signature and printed name on receipt for pickup or delivery.
• Collects money from customers and records transactions on customer receipt.
• Records delivery information on daily delivery record.
• Listens to and resolves service complaints.
• Informs regular customers of new products and services.
• Issues sales promotion materials to customers.
• Collects or picks up empty containers, pallets or rejected or unsold merchandise.
• Cleans inside of truck. Performs routine maintenance on truck, power jack and hand truck.
• Upon return, driver reports to Supervisor after completion of paperwork to complete all assigned duties and cleaning responsibilities.

*This job is a safety sensitive position.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

• High school diploma or general education diploma (GED)
• 1-2 years\' professional commercial driving experience and/or training (preferred)
• Valid and current Class A Drivers License required.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
• Ability to communicate effectively to customers, employees, and groups of employees.
• Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Basic mathematical skills
• Ability to operate a tractor/trailers; bobtail trucks, power jacks and forklifts.
• Working knowledge of practical and mechanical trucking terminology.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Must have knowledge and ability to operate the following: Semi-trucks, Bobtails, Power Jacks, Hand Trucks and Forklifts.
