Summary
Our Facilities department has an opportunity for a Building Equipment Man A, who will work as part of a Facility Maintenance Team at a Journeyman level.
Our Building Equipment Man A must understand the physical laws and principles of two of the following skills or can perform efficiently in several areas: electrical, HVAC, or building controls. They will demonstrate a full understanding of Facilities maintenance processes, systems and equipment and have strong working knowledge of problem-solving techniques, diagnosing and troubleshooting problems. Technical knowledge is often sought by co-workers and customers and is viewed as a highly skilled resource in own field of specialization.
The work hours for this position are Monday-Friday 6:00AM - 2:30PM with a rotation for after hours and on call emergencies.
Minimum Requirements:
-High School Diploma or GED
-Seven (7) years' experience in direct or related work
-HVAC and universal refrigerant handling certification required
-Valid driver's license
-Must be able to qualify for the D.O.T. driver program and maintain qualification
Additional Requirements:
-Must be physically capable of handling all job requirements
-Must live within reasonable distance (one (1) hour) of headquarters
-Periodic out of town work required
-Periodic on-call required
-Must be able to successfully pass required tests (written and hands-on)
-The established headquarters for this position is subject to relocation to the Hub West Service Center, a facility that will be located 38 miles west of downtown Phoenix, on a date to be determined by the company.

Job Duties include but not limited to:
-Leadership responsibilities and willingness to direct the work of others in the performance of duties
-Requires a basic understanding of budgets and job scheduling and ability to work as Project Leader
-Reviews own work and work of others for quality and timeliness
-Identify and develops ways to improve technical processes and recommend improvements
-Serves as an on-site expert in one or more technical areas in the department
-Recognizes obstacles during the planning process, develops contingencies; recommends solutions and follows through with appropriate actions. Assumes full responsibility for any given job or project.
-Documents progress on projects and insures that prints, schematics and records are updated as is appropriate
-Works independently on complex problems and projects using manuals, blueprints, schematics and layouts
-Can interpret and communicate in verbal and written form information applying to technical matters and procedures
-Uses test instruments and tools needed to complete a given task, orders and replaces supplies and equipment parts
-Repair/maintain pumps, compressors, machines and a variety of other equipment needed for the operation of the facility
-Repair/Maintain all types of plumbing systems/fixtures such as water lines, drain lines, toilets, urinals, sinks, etc.
-Operate/maintain all types of air conditioning systems and equipment such as direct expansion AlC units, building automation systems, chillers, air handlers, vav systems, coolers, heaters, cooling towers, etc. in order to meet necessary environmental requirements or comfort levels
-Uses latest sheet metal fabrication, design and layout practices for current/future work
-Coordinates work of vendors/contractors to complete work and projects from start to finish
-Provides technical support and training to lower skill levels in department
-In-depth knowledge and skill gained in performing this job, or by successfully completing required training associated with this job, may be applied when performing similar job responsibilities in other functional areas of the Company.

Testing Information

A written [paper and pencil] test will be administered.
A test using a computer with keyboard will be administered.
A hands-on skills test will be administered.

Role Type
Onsite: Requires work to be performed in the field and/or at an APS facility. Depending on the responsibilities of the role, this may include, but is not limited to, working at a power plant, job site, or in the community.
*Employees are expected to reside in Arizona (or New Mexico for Four Corners-based employees).

Eligibility:
Must live or relocate within reasonable distance to the headquarters. Reasonable distance is defined as one (1) hour for Metro and State Region locations. Reasonable distance for Troublemen, Local Representatives, and Substation Technicians is defined as thirty (30) minutes for Metro locations and forty-five (45) minutes for State Region locations. Failure to accept a job offer due to the reasonable distance requirement specific to the position will be counted toward the bid restriction as described in Article 13, Section 11
For jobs in departments (System, Reliability, Hotstick) that require the majority of the work be performed out-of-town and as such, employees/crews are not required to report to the established headquarters unless directed by Leadership; the reasonable distance requirement will be waived*.
